Why would NJ trade their young captain who is on a decent cap and doesn’t have any known issues with the team

They certainly wouldn’t, but as for a reason why they would…because he’s just not that good.

If he’s not good then why trade for him?

Not that good?

He averaged over 0.60 points per game in his first 3 seasons on a rebuilding team while being excellent defensively

Yayyyyy 50 points. I didn’t say he wasn’t good. I said he wasn’t that good. I wouldn’t be eager to give up a teams top two prospects, a 1st, and a pretty valuable young winger for a 50 point guy that gets paid like a 70 point guy.

Yup. .6 points. Not that good. Debrusk is .55 even with that horrific season he just turned in.

Let’s not get crazy here. It’s not like this guy didn’t give up any value. For what hischier has been, it’s not a bad offer. But since he’s got the number 1 overall pick label, and has a lot of potential to get better, it isn’t realistic.

Nico Hischier: 0.63 points per game on a bad team and better defensively
Jake DeBrusk: 0.54 points per game on a good team and worse defensively

Stop hating on Nico for no reason

Awwwww did i hurt your feelings? I didn’t say he wasn’t a good player. He’s not that good though. I don’t think any teams would be looking to give up their top two prospects, a second, and two roster players.

Defensively debrusk is pretty solid. Let’s not make hischier out to be a selke candidate or anything.

Look, i get it. Hischier was the first overall pick. You want him to be a franchise player. But he just isn’t. That doesn’t mean he’s useless. He’s a solidish number 2 center and a real good number 3.

While Hischier's point totals don't make him a 1C today, his transition play and shot contributions per 60 are extraordinary. Good luck keeping the puck out of your end when he's on the ice. And comparing him to frickin DeBrusk, that's just insulting.

Point totals were brought up. That’s a fair comparison.
