Trades
TOR
  1. Kuokkanen, Janne [RFA Rights]
  2. Mercer, Dawson
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Toronto gets assets back for Rielly when he is on an expiring contract and should not get extended based on the leafs cap situation. Picking up a first and young player really helps filling cheap talent throughout the big 4. Kuokkanen can help right away while Mercer maybe a year in the Marlies. The first can either be used or moved at the deadline if they are looking to add a big piece.
NJD
  1. Engvall, Pierre
  2. Rielly, Morgan
  3. 2023 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Rielly signs a 7 year 7 million dollar extension before signing that is why the cost is a bit higher. NDJ seem to try and advance the rebuild procees and a top pair 27 year old D man helps. New jersey gets a top pair D man to play with Dougie. They have 27 million and can afford the extension. The first round pick it lottery protected so if the devils do not make the playoffs it moves to 2023. A top 4 of Rielly Hamilton Graves Severson with Smith and Subban gives them a really good D core all locked up (expect subban). They have a lot of young forwards already so one become expendable. Kuokkanen and Engvall become swaps, Engvall 2 years younger and scores at a similar rate per 60 minutes and Engvall better Defensively.

Nah we'll pass
We don't need Rielly with Smith, Hughes, Mukamudullin, Bahl on the left side
And this is way too much for the Devils to give up

NJ doesn’t even consider this deal. Their defense is fine after the acquisitions of Hamilton and Graves and can’t afford to sign Reilly to a 7x7 deal.
NJ is wayyyyyyy better off holding on to this assets

Devil's sign Hamilton to a long term contract and draft Luke Hughes

"I think Devil's could use a power specialist and would be willing to trade a lottery pick for him"

Such an underrated point here.
Two-way right-handed centers don’t grow on trees.
Mercer is a keeper.

I wouldn't say untouchable but he's close to it

He's on the same boat as Sharangovich.

I see where you’re coming from but for me, the only untouchable player is Hughes. With that being said, Mercer is one of the many players that I would need a reeaally good return for me to move him and reilly along with a cap dump is not something that I would consider moving him for

5 untouchables would be: Hughes, Nico, Smith, Dougie and Blackwood

Mercer is neither a Center or a two way player. Have you seen his junior numbers, he is below average defensively. Plus Eliteprospects has him listed as a Right winger. If you think the package is not fair that is fine, just dont overrate your own prospects just because he is yours.

I mean Seth Jones who is worse than Reilly just went for Boqvist (better than Mercer) a fist and a pick swap so why wouldnt Rielly be worth somewhat similar.

You’re on the pipe if you think Reilly is better than Jones and if you truly believed that you wouldn’t have Reilly signing for 7x7

Rielly is definitely better than Jones. Jones is not as good as some people think. Jones also singed 9.5 per which i dont think he is deserving of. Rielly is also not deserving of 9 million dollars pluss, I think 7 is reasonable.

He can play both and he literally won the best defensive forward in the QMJHL

That is interesting I didnt know he won the best defensive forward award. I didnt even know the Q handed that out! I guess he must have improved dramatically there because his draft year he was horrible on that side of the puck my bad!

Is this serious? He plays center and just won the CHL equivalent of the Selke award.
