I think he would have the same Flames career as Niklas Grossman, come into camp, compete for a spot with Mackey and Kylington, likely start the season on the roster and either move to the press box or off the roster within the first couple months. I do love me some Gudbranson though

Erik Gudbranson, Vancouver Canuck legend. In all seriousness, why do teams what Erik “pylon” Gudbranson?

Valimaki gonna be at least 1.25, Glenn Gawdin minimum 950k, Matthew Philips prolly closer to 850. A lot of the prospects are gonna want more than league minimum. Dube could easily be 2-3.

Why on earth would any GM pay Phillips or Gawdin over the NHL minimum? Gawdin didn't even have great AHL numbers this year he was far surpassed by Ruzicka and shouldn't get more money than him on a deal. Phillips is an undersized guy who showed well for a burst in the AHL, he's a 0.71 career PPG guy in the AHL, there is a dime a dozen of those guys in the AHL. Valimaki could be a bit more on a two year, but a one year deal after he had a really shaky season, over a million in a flat cap league would be craziness. Dube had a much less impressive season than Mangiapane when he wanted to get paid and it turned into a 1 year 715K contract and then a bridge at 2.425 after he busted out a bit, you want to pay Dube similar or more than Mangiapane got? That seems really off base.

As it says above, good camp body, likely on a PTO type deal, breaks camp, gets surpassed very quickly. Nice to have a veteran in the line up while the younger guys get their feet under them.

Why not just bring back Stone instead of Gudbranson? He was great when brought back in last season and clearly wants to stay in Calgary

Don't mind that either, I personally think that Gudbranson plays a better possession game in his own end as opposed to Stone but really it's such a marginal difference in the bottom pairing that it's just a warm body until Mackey is ready.

IMO I could definitely see Stone signing a contract similar to what Bogosain just signed to be a #6/7 guy. And a guy who wants to be here is good for the team. Personally I dont see Calgary signing Zadorov long term I see him as a stopgap for the year for Valimaki, otherwise he becomes a 3rd pair liability cap wise moving forward (similar to Stone's old contract)

I think that he is here longer than that, the guy can absolutely eat minutes if need be and can lock down his own end, that with the ability to play both sides up and down the line up is a big plus going forward. He's also only 26, D men take time to develop, if they can get him some minutes with Tanev while Valimaki develops he could really turn into something positive. I personally think that with him going to arbitration and his projected contract being over 2.5, 3 - 4 years at the price above would be a pretty good deal. That plus the cap hopefully going up in a couple seasons.
