Actually I'd probably do it, but I would also tell Cal before the trade that there is a long-term contract waiting for him next summer in LA. Let Quick be the starter for one more year before handing the reins over to Petersen.

Why would Calgary trade a 1st for a goalie when they have Markstrom, Vladar, and Wolf? Makes no sense

I thought it was an overpay to Dube too until I noticed it’s set at a 5-year term….

Dont see him getting a long term deal in the current flat cap then, probably 2 years at 2M (assuming he's still on the team)

I’ll be content if Dube + Valimaki comes in below $3M combined x 2 years for each guy. But I’d be more content if Treliving just gets the deal done and Dube heads to BUF.

I don't like the idea of moving Dube to Buffalo I just think he would need to be included for cap reasons as Pelletier is probably NHL ready and still on an ELC. I love Dube but Sabres have said they want some young NHL players in a return and he just fits their ask perfectly, top 9 guy with 1st line potential, 23 or under, and proven leadership skills

I’m just operating under the assumption that Dube has to be included in an Eichel deal. If they prefer Pelletier, fine. It does make the cap situation for CGY tighter because Dube probably signs at $1.5-1.8M x 2 years this summer.

I think Dube is on the verge of a breakthrough in his NHL development, and being around Mangiapane is a great reference point. Fingers crossed for big things from Dube starting this year.
