Domi has a 70 point season and a 50 point season. Kerfoot has only managed a couple of 40 point seasons. A lot of people have recency bias with Kerfoot. He had a great playoffs but he was mostly invisible in the regular season. If Domi isn't putting up points at least he's being physical and getting into the game with hits.

Domi has been declining heavily for 2 years, has always been terrible defensively cannot play c and is coming off surgery that is scheduled to have him out till January and then he's a ufa.
Kerfoot has been better than domi for 2 years in almost every way while playing on the 3rd line with no power play and worse linemates.
Right, but without Eichel they still have a full team.
Skinner
Bjork
Olofsson
Asplund
Girgensons. Just at LW. All of them are better than Engvall.
Yeah, but the idea is to get worse. Buffalo should trade out its good players who have value for picks and prospects and tank the season like Arizona is trying to do. Engvall is a bottom six body. That's his usefulness. When the Leafs tanked for Matthews they were icing an AHL team. Buffalo should do the same this year.

Its hard for an offensive minded player to flourish in Torts' system unless you are insanely skilled like Panarin. On a more skilled and offensive team Domi will rediscover his game. He's still young. And the Leafs don't need him to play C.
In a trade with Toronto the Blue Jackets have to retain half his salary and the Leafs have to give up a player or pick of real value for that. I don't see the Leafs handing Columbus any more picks and apart from their young prospects Kerfoot is their best trade chip.

He was bad in Montreal too. He's just not good.
And you dont trade for expensive players who beed to 'find their game' when you are trying to win. That is what teams like the sens do, especially when you are giving up useful players and pieces for him and also have no term control.
That may be true but it doesn't make him worth anything he's a big creampuff - there's a reason every TOR trade is dumping him
he's a fine 4th liner who can PK and score at a decent clip. People want to trade him because they think 4th liners need to score 35 points or hit everything that moves.
and if a guy can play on your 2nd line, he's worth more than a 4th. a 4th is nothing.
