I don't dislike it from a MTL perspective. Not my main target but I wouldn't be opposed.

That entire trade rests upon the fact that Buffalo agrees that's the right price for Eichel, CGY and MTL gladly accept this lol

i think its pretty fair if you take out Miller. Maybe a better prospect from Montreal?

Who'd ya suggest? Struble's a 2nd round pick from a two years ago and he's been ok in NCAA.

At the very least I think that prospect has to be a D as CGY doesn't really have D prospects to offer, while MTL has a logjam in LHD prospects.

Struble is pretty much in Ylönen's tier if you prefer a forward. At defense, Jordan Harris is slightly better than Struble, but his rights expire at the end of this season.

Buffalo really doesnt need LD prospects either though, they literally just drafted Power at #1. Maybe Harris instead of Struble?

Its kinda hard to get the exact value from Montreal fans here As its what the Sabres would consider a fair return for Monahan. I think that return is ok but not great

Harris' rights pose a bit of a problem as they expire fairly soon and nothing forces him to sign with Sabres - especially if he's getting stuck in the system as you correctly pointed out.

Its not really what I prefer though, I just find the Habs part hard to judge here. I assume Op is basing this off my Bruins trade but I dont consider Lehkonen to be the same level player as DeBrusk so the prospect that Montreal adds has to be better than Vaak.

The best option may be to ask Sabres fans if they think its a fair return for, obviously Calgary would never do the trade directly with Montreal loosing Monahan for futures and depth players makes no sense for them so I cant really say myself if the value is fair or not

Problem is finding a Sabres fans who's expecting for a realistic return. They'll most likely just scrap this outright as it doesn't have the likes of Tkachuk and the next 20 first round picks involved.

95% of those I've discussed with act like Eichel was a super unavailable and happy-where-he-is piece and expect pieces like Zegras/Caufield/Lafrenière/Suzuki in return. Good luck with that lol.

Say, would you be willing to swap Struble for Norlinder in this exchange?

idk I got some pretty good feedback in mine from Sabres fans, Ive also seen a lot more Sabres fans open up to the Flames side of the trade above

I don't think the Flames would prefer Norlinder though. He has an higher upside but the chances he reaches it are low and he has a much lower floor.

Your offer is good, so it's no wonder, although I only saw two actual Sabres fan comments there.

I've had the inkling that CGY should go after Eichel pretty much since the playoffs begun and we first heard about the reasons why Eichel is not coming back, but forming a trade has been an issue as his trade value is probably the most controversial things there's been during the cap era. On this site we've gone from "no Tkachuk, no deal" to two established players and two prospects to a full prospect return to the mixture of all mentioned here all the while the ask going lower and lower and lower because what has been reported.

Well he'd head to Sabres in this exchange anyway, but point taken. Some Habs fan say that he's worth a 1st plus, some say he's a high ceiling prospect with low chances to meet them. I like the latter part but his value is questioned usually here.

Don't get me wrong, 3 ways trades are the most difficult thing to set up and this one was good enough to get me to dig into it, but...

I don’t like it for Montreal. They could end up empty handed in 2 years. Also, 8M is too much to take on. That would mean loosing another player, plus an asset, in a capdump trade to make it fit.

On Buffalo side, I'm guessing fans would complain their return doesn't include enough high value assets. The proverbial 4x1st value isn't here, not that I'm blaming you for it.. It's ridiculous...

Bottom line, it's an honest try and I enjoyed the idea smile

IDK if you just added the Miller's retained salary or if I missed it earlier, but based on an AGM I made, Habs would still be 30k short. Very close though!

It was there all the time but I forgot to put it in description.

If it came to such little sums, CGY could retain another 20% or something of that contract.

I don't think CGY agrees to this because they're lacking 2022 picks in general.

damn you are one of the few people on this site who makes super fair trades for a long time. I'm always amazed. This trade is pretty good for every team. The only deciding factor is weather Montreal wants Monahan or not
