Manage the cap and get Eichel

Created by: RobinBergdahl
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2021
Published: Aug. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The two trades are explained further down.
As for the FA signings:
Kirill Kaprizov: 45M over 5 years. He gives himself a good amount of years left after this contract is up. Therefore he can cash in further more in 2026, on Minny or on any other team.

As for Tatar and Gudbranson. They all get expensive 1y deals. They bring good depth to the team. This leaves Minnesota with more capspace left for the 2022 Offseason. It also gives Minnesota a chance to leave their prospects in the AHL for longer, not having to rush them onto the big scene.

This team is deep and good. And as for the Eichel trade they loose a lot of futures, but they still keep Rossi, Beckman, Wallstedt, Lambos, O’Rourke etc. They still have a good amount of rookies left with a good chance to make the big league and be impact players.

Give me feedback! There has been rumors that BUF could retain up to 2M on Eichel.

Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Kuokkanen, Janne [RFA Rights]
  2. Subban, P.K.
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (NJD)
  4. 2022 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Janne would become a good 3 liner for MIN. PK is a player added for cap reasons in the next trade with Buffalo. The picks are there to somewhat make the value fair. I could see MIN get more back for Dumba but id rather take on less then to much in an ACGM.
2.
MIN
  1. Eichel, Jack ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. Hägg, Robert
Additional Details:
Hägg is just an add on. Good depth for Minny. His replacement is PK.
BUF
  1. Boldy, Matthew
  2. Fiala, Kevin [RFA Rights]
  3. Hunt, Daemon
  4. Johansson, Filip [Reserve List]
  5. Khovanov, Alexander
  6. Rask, Victor
  7. Subban, P.K.
  8. 2022 1st round pick (MIN)
  9. 2022 2nd round pick (NJD)
  10. 2023 2nd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
I see Khovanov, Hunt and the two 2nd rounders as the payment for Buffalo retaining 10 mil (2m AAV)

Top 3 protected first and the 2023 2nd becomes a unprotected 2023 first If MIN reach the 2022 or 2023 Stanley cup final with Eichel playing min 12 games in both seasons (separate)

Assuming no one plays off, NJ would have Hamilton - Severson - Dumba on the right side. Solid.

A surprisingly good ACGM. I don't agree with all the values here, but great job on breaking down your thoughts and reasonings for these moves. This is an elite-level ACGM compared to most of the Eichel-trades.

It's been made clear wild gm bill Guerin isn't trading dumba and further depleting their d, it's not happening

It doesn't make sense for the Devils either. They would be paying 6 mil for a 3rd pairing guy when they have needs all over the forward group and give up on Koukkanen and draft picks. Why pay that much for a guy who won't crack the top 4 or push a guy like Severson to the bottom pairing. If anything we don't want a d man back but a forward if we move Subban to move Seigs to the right side and Bahl on the bottom pairing to kill penalties and play defensive zone starts.

Dumba is better than any d new Jersey has including sverson and bahl. Dumba is one of the good young top 4d on a stacked wild d was playing top 4, top 2d at times

He's not better than Hamilton and the point is he pushes Severson to a 3rd pairing which is not ideal. Devils should not be giving up multiple assets for a luxury piece when they have so many other needs. If this was for a top 6 forward it fits what they need going into the season.

Buffalo says no thank you.

Reasons:
1. Retention on Eichel
2. The Sabres are eating over 20 mil in cap
3. Boldy is the lone interesting piece due to the number of conditions

I’m ok with retention but not 2 million and I need to get premium assets back to do it. 1m to 1.5 tops. At this point, I wouldn’t be stunned if it happened in the future.

Minnesota would be much better off staying the course and keeping their top prospects, Boldy, Rossi, and Beckman. With their cap situation in a couple years, those young cheap players will keep them competitive, that’s why I’m skeptical on them getting Eichel. I can’t see Guerin doing that.

They’d be much better off going after a guy like Christian Dvorak who’s be cheaper

The thing about prospects is that they are often overrated. Part of Minnesotas core is older and dont have enough time to wait for Rossi/Boldy to hit their primes. You need to give some to get some. I know that this ACGM aint 100% perfect, but it is very well motivated and not something that ”would never happen”

Thank you very much! I dont have a full insight on Minnesotas pool, but ive tried to catch up with Minnesota news etc to get a good picture of what a deal for Eichel could look like for MIN due to their ****ed cap situation. I also try to undervalue my own pieces in these types of ACGMs because it becomes the most realistic.
