Leafs should be going with a 22 man lineup. There will be cap space by the deadline cause undoubtedly with some higher cap players will be on LTIR during the course of the season.

Don't want your good players to be injured but if they are.....Lets' say Muzzin is on LTIR for month. HIs 5.6m salary (for a month) is replaced by a 1m player for month. That certainly gives you some cap space for a player at TDL for six weeks of the regular season.

But then what happens when Muzzin comes back. You’ll be over the cap. I’m sure that the NHL won’t allow teams to do what Tampa did and activate players for the playoffs where the cap hit doesn’t matter.

No. If Muzzin is out for 1/6 of a season, the Leafs save 950,000 in cap...minus his replacement which might cost 150,000. That's a cap saving of 800,000
The post was talking about a TDL addition, So for 5.6m player ...it only costs the the team 800,000 in cap.
