TRADE COUTS NOW

Created by: Roscoe
Team: 2021-22 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2021
Published: Aug. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I like Couts but he has been highly overrated and is in noway comparable to Bergeron. The reason his current contract is so low is because he wasn't putting up numbers like the Flyers (and Couts himself, or he doesn't agree to that contract) thought he would. Yes he is good defensively and is ok offensively but again he isn't in the same league as Bergeron. If you don't trade him you run the risk of overpaying him based on a few good years.

Yes we are weak down the middle but lets find out what Frost and Foerester can do

Having said all that the Flyers are not ready to contend this year or next no matter what the Philly media says

Terrible. Couturier is not overrated, and is easily your most important player. You're not a competing team without him.

Considering that Phi is ALL IN win now mode with all their old guys there is no way they are trading out JVR and Couts unless a better player today is coming back.

For better or worse that team is committed

Statistically speaking Couturier is very much comparable to Bergeron. Or at the very least, I can't think of any younger player in the league that'd be more comparable to Bergeron than Couturier is. Only Barkov comes close.

Bergeron's offensive stats get inflated by the fact he plays with two of the best scoring wingers in the league. Sure, all players in that BOS top line complement each other, but the likes of Couturier or Barkov are not enjoying such help from their respective linemates.

Point is, if you're afraid to pay him because he's a step down from Bergeron, you don't deserve a player close to Bergeron in general. He's pretty much elite on his own right, and being a step down from Bergeron doesn't mean he's bad in any way.

Well I mean if they don’t want to win the cup that’s fine by me, but it wouldn’t be a smart decision. They fix their centre core while adding one of the best two way forwards in the game for a prospect that will most likely not get as good as Couturier in his career.

The timing of this trade makes no sense now. This can be a deadline deal if things don’t go as well as hoped.

As for where the Flyers are, they are a solid team. A breakout year or two from some young players makes them a cup contender. Especially if one of them is Hart. They could be a special team if another is Frost. But that’s a game of ifs, which the salary cap kind of creates year to year.

Honestly, I don't think that I have ever seen a write up so incorrect and off base before in my life. Not only is Couturier in the same league as Bergeron, he is basically the best comparable to Bergeron over the last few years. Hockey writers, announcers, and even NHL exec's have said as much. I don't know what you're watching but you couldn't be more wrong. Coots is one of the most underrated players in the league, and actually behind the Bruins big 3, has one of the best contracts in the league in terms of value. He is a perennial Selke finalist and just won one (which is voted on by NHL people, so you know how he's viewed around the league by people in the know), and since he was elevated into a scoring role, is basically a point per game player.

Unless you're trolling, I have no clue how you can believe what you wrote.

No troll
Just my opinion
I've watched the Flyers since 84 and while I love Couts my biggest fear is the Flyers will over pay him and over term him. I don't care what anyone else says the Flyers aren't ready to contend. Every year since Giroux was Couts age the flyers were Stanley cup contenders. 6 years later we aren't any closer. I get it its a gamble but why not rebuild now. In fact, I really liked what Hextall was doing and the vision he had. Granted he might've not traded Couts but he was building for the future. Too say we are in win now mode is foolish

Listen, everything you've said has been thought out and i appreciate the fandom coming out of you. Truly do. But players like G and coots are necessary to win a cup. No matter how you slice it, they are integral parts. It's neither of their faults that the FO has not surrounded them with better talent. Every single year was the same, it was status quo, and it was not fair. Does Sid win cups without Geno, Letang, Fluery, Kunitz, etc etc. Does Chiacgo win without Toews, Keith, Seabrook, et al? No, they don't. It's not a one man show, TB doesn't win with only Point and Kuch. They would give it a good go, but it's the Gourde's, the Palat's, the Hedman's, etc etc.

You don't get rid of a guy who is possibly the best complete player in the league. There is a premium on players like Sean Couturier. And if weren't for mono, he would've probably been the number one pick that year. He immediately, as a rookie, shut down one of the most talented players (Malkin) in NHL history.....in his first year. He is not the problem, you don't sell him for pennies on the dollar, you build around him.

Take it for what you will
