The Toronto Flaming Coyotes LOL

Created by: leafs2024
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2021
Published: Aug. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Calgary has some more cap space with Giordano gone. They've got their "tough guy" in Coleman and maybe need a bit more. Leafs may have to give up a bit more to get Backlund, but I think he'd be great either on the left wing or 3C and can replace Tavares when he gets knocked out again next playoffs cause... it's the Leafs.

Flames decline. Tkachuk isn't available and if we use that cap space it would be for Eichel.

I'm convinced most people dont even look up Dvorak. He's never hit 40 points or 20 goals and is not good defensivly.
Where in the world does that return come from? even with the LOL tacked on.

We need the extra cap space. Gotta down-grade a bit by giving up Marner so that the rest of the team can get better.

I think the Flames might be intrigued... Marner is very enticing bait. You don't come by a player like him very often.

Better player making more money than he's.worth and a worse player making less than he's worth. Value...evened out. Tkachuk isn't really that much less of a player than Marner IMO.

Yeah, but I think Dvorak is very underrated. I think he's decent defensively, but he's basically a more skilled version of Hyman. Playing in Arizona in the role he did probably caused his numbers to be lower than what they would be on a different, more offensively minded team.

Yeah I agree. Both have a different set of skills that even out IMO.

Dvorak is the new saviour. This position was previously held by Bennet, Iafollo, Coleman, and of course Garland.

he's below average defensively and he doesnt really play anything like Hyman. He'd be a nice add for the leafs, but he's played with plenty of good offensive players that should have allowed him to even hit 40 points once. I'd love the leafs to add him, but that price is so far above his actual value that it might as well be in the Mariana Trench

Yeah, I think I overpaid mainly because Arizona would have to retain some of his salary for 4 years.

From his scouting report: "Has plenty of two-way acumen, especially playmaking prowess. Is an outstanding skater who can generate a ton of pressure on opposing defensemen on the forecheck. Can kill penalties and be used in a shutdown role, too. Needs to get physically stronger and does not have ideal size (6-0, 195 pounds), so it can be a challenge for him to produce at the National Hockey League level. Has already had a serious knee issue early on in his development." Sounds okay to me and I think he's gotten over his injury.

scouting reports from jr are very different than results in the NHL, his career defensive metrics are not good at all and pretty solidly below average across the board.

The exact same thing can be said for Tkachuk, who we value more than Marner

I think you are right... probably not a top-line guy, but he could develop into one if playing with Matthews just like Hyman. Can't run his own line, but can benefit from playing with superstars.

I would have held onto Marner in that trade with Cgy so that you could reform the dynamic line of Tkachuk / Dvorak / Marner from their London Knights days.

CGY is a much better team having Tkachuk at $8M long term plus a $2.5M UFA signing than Marner. No question. And I love Marner as a player. Would rather have Tkachuk on my team, even in a 1-for-1 deal if they were paid the same AAV.

Yeah, true. Though I think Tkachuk is going to ask for a big raise next year. I don't know... perhaps after so many years of failure, both teams are looking for a change and I've heard rumours Tkachuk isn't super happy in Calgary.

I'm just guessing, but Tkachuk isn't so much unhappy in Calgary, is that he probably wants a change in summer 2023 to go to different location, Giving seven years to the middling Flames team will be enough. IMO he takes a qualifying offer of 9m next summer and then is a UFA in 2023

He would likely leave Toronto as well, they may make the playoffs more than Calgary but overall they have been a failure as well.
