Making defense better

Created by: BruinsCharlies
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2021
Published: Aug. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Believe it is more important to make the defense better and deeper than stretching for a 2C. Pionk is skilled and has some bite for a player his size.

Give Studnicka a legitimate opportunity at 2C and forge ahead from there.

From a Winnipeg perspective I have no idea why they traded for Schmidt at full cap hit. With Copp and Pionk to sign among others and approximately 11M in cap space it made me think that one of those two might be on the move. Give me some insight Jets fans.

Hard pass by Jets we’re trading a good top 4 defensemen for an AVERAGE 3rd line winger at best and two worthless picks

I’d be shocked if Pionk was the one shipped out. I actually only think there will be tinkering to the forward group now. Jets have needed a solid backend for two seasons now, I can’t see them trading any of their top 6 dMen away unless they were blown away by an offer.

2nd and 3rd are worthless nowadays so what, the first 32/224 picks are the only ones other that matter?

That trade wouldn't interest Winnipeg at all. They finally have 4 good top 4 defensemen, they're not trading one now especially for a supremely underwhelming return.

Jets don’t have the rhd depth to trade from there, there’s possibly a morrissey/stanley/heinola possibility, but would have to be a healthy physical upgrade for top 6, kind of debrusk from a couple seasons ago, or bertuzzi from detroit. Jets like a strong blueline 8 deep so I would be surprised of any trades, other than possibly a change of scenery niku for a change of scenery power forward that is a bubble nhler.

The right side is DeMelo Pionk and Schmidt the left is Morrissey Dillion and Stanley

Stastny 2nd, Lowry 3rd, Copp 4th, Helly 5th, Bergeron 2nd, Marchand 3rd, Krejci 2nd, Carlo 2nd, Gryz 3rd, Smith 4th. I get it if you don't want to trade a good top 4 defenseman but that is a pretty myopic view of those draft picks. Those draft picks are how good teams get built.

DeBrusk really shouldn’t be a full time nhler anymore after the season he just had..

Yes but heinola coming fast and samberg not that far behind on lhd side. Rhd side I’m not overly confident who’s coming behind who’s there. Probably everybody is atleast a few months of moose away, where heinola could steal a job in preseason.

Idk why they traded for Schmidt either, had to be other options to improve the defense that didn't involve acquiring a 30 year old dman making almost $6M for the next four years!

Should've signed Ryan Murray to a one or two year deal, offer him a bit more then Colorado did, would've been far better from a cap perspective now and in the future then acquiring Schmidt, also with so many good D prospects knocking on the door acquiring a guy with so much term just doesn't make sense, guess I believe in Heinola more then the Jets do.
