If that was the case...cool. You also would have kept Mete or been part of the Subban trade.

Byron costs 6.8M over 2 years.

It costs a 1st to dump 6M (Marleau), and that was before the flat cap. More expensive now.

Another example, is Ladd 8M over 2 years, cost 2nd+2nd+3rd

So Byron is between a 1st and 2nd+2nd+3rd.

Thats real world examples given for my reasoning, you explain your side.

You can get ~1.4M in retention for 1 year for a 4th. (Foligno). That's about $700k divided over 2 years for a 4th.
Byron could likely be moved for free at a $2.7M cap hit.
If not, add another 4th. Byron at $2M should be enticing to at least a few teams.

    Yes and No.

So the sharks got a 4th for retaining 1.375M cap hit after the deadline, its more expensive dragging it over 2 seasons, and more expensive if youre asking for a contract spot.

Okay, so if you want to trade Byron to another team, OTT would retain 700k per season for a 3rd.

Point is, you don't need to give up a 1st or multiple 2nds. There is more than 1 option, especially if a player has a relatively low salary and is still useful at a lower cap hit.

Which team do you see as a target for Byron @ 2.7M?

Anyone in contention that is looking for PK or bottom 6 help. He's out for a bit, so it would probably make more sense as a deadline add.
