He could work with someone who isn't afraid to shoot the puck and knows how to get open. That could be Caulfield, Toffoli, or Hoffman, or even KK if he starts shooting more. Personally I'd run him with KK and Hoffman and give them heavy offensive starts.
Should have lots of energy to backcheck if you aren't wasting it skating towards the offensive zone.

It's a valid point you bring up about letting the guys you mentioned spending one more year away from the NHL, and I think that the forwards on your roster are well capable to wreak havoc in the Metro.
Though I'd do the forward lines like this:

Tatar - Hughes - Sharangovich
Zacha - Hischier - Bratt
Drouin - Kuokkanen - Johnsson
Wood - McLeod - Thompson

he fits right beside Suzuki and Caufield
