Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this scenario we would end up waiving Gagner and likely losing him (or we could buy out Nielsen)

Quick is a cap dump for a few assets

We would only take on Eric Staal to flip at the deadline, likely trading Bobby Ryan as well both to contenders for some mid rounders. If we retained 50% on Koskinen we could maybe get a mid round pick at the deadline (I think he could be a serviceable back up at 2.5m?) we can only retain one more, so maybe we just let Koskinen contract fall off end of year and retain else where for more valuable assets. // also chose to take Bobby Ryan back over Erne

No luck out there for Svechnikov so far, so maybe we could bring him and Sheahan back on a 2 way deals, dont hate, this is AHL depth

Quick will retire a King, I can’t see them trading him away unless they’re desperate for cap space.

I think the Oilers just ride out the last year of Koskinen. They didn’t make room for a future starting goalie like Ullmark via free agency, so with fewer options out there they aren’t going to give up a 1st plus to get an older rental, even though I fully support more draft picks for Detroit

Well they upgrade goalie and they shed Turris, so its not picks strictly for Koskinen

Do you think you can get a good defenseman and a 2nd to take on Quick's contract which is in no way an issue for the Kings? If the Kings wanted to trade him they could retain salary and get something back for him, for he can be serviceable to a contending team.

I absolutely think thats a fair trade, Next year they have serious cap problems, more cost effective to move him now rather than retain for next year and be worse off

What problems? they have 30 mil cap space next year. Add to that all the rookies are going to come in.

In what sense is Jonathan Quick a cap dump? We have over $2 million in cap space right now with all 23 roster players signed and Quick on the tab. And next year we have Dustin Brown's $5.875 million, Alex Edler's $3.5 million, Olli Maata's $3.333 million, and Jeff Carter's $2.6 million coming off the books, with no one significant to re-sign.

You should really learn more about other teams before making such pronouncements as "Next year they have serious cap problems."

The Kings just came off a year having ~$10M locked up in Phaneuf and Kovalchuk who were both out of the league. Two years remaining for Quick is nothing, assuming the team even wants to dump him in the first place.
