Vegas is gonna be tough, the rumor is buffalo will take back salary but they don't wanna retain. Vegas doesn't have that perfect cap dump for this. To me, that looks like the return for eichel, plus one first for retention. Since that's 15 million dollars for what's likely a late first, I would expect they counter with 2 million retained, and that's only if pegula is dead set on moving him out west. It's not the worst I've seen, there's teams that certainly could offer a better package, but if nobody wants to pony up, and pegula wants him out of the conference,, that might be it.

That’s the issue is wanting to only send him west. Kings seemingly have moved on and were probably the best fit with no retention. Ducks probably don’t want to give up what sabres would want. Preds maybe?

I agree, that's why I dont think it's far off. Minnesota, Calgary, and Nashville make sense but there's problems for each, and LA and Anaheim may or may not be interested depending on what Blake and Murray are feeding the media. If Vegas is OK with that price, throw it on the table and see if anybody beats it.

tbh I really liked Vegas' offer of Hague, Krebs, Smith and a 1st but I wonder how much retention they wanted?

I don’t think this deal makes VGK better today or in the future. That is a crazy price to pay, even for the retention.

Don’t know how else you would structure with the right amount of money going out/enticing sabres to retain

Tuch and Reilly have been playoff monsters for VGK from day 1. Moving them to make the cap work is a very painful pill to swallow. Not to mention making this trade signals (once again) to VGK players that this team isn’t in the business of building loyalty with players for more than 2-3 years.

Adding a top prospect C and two more 1st rounders is massive value on top of all that.

I’ll keep my crack. It’s better than yours.

Hertl would be a perfect fit for VGK, IMO.

VGK has been an excellent/deep playoff contender with their Top 6, even without the bonafide elite 1C. It’s because they have a great mix of responsible wingers (Stone, Tuch, Reilly, Marchessault, Pacioretty, etc) to complement decent centers…and all of that in front of a top notch D core and goalies.

I view the package above as the equivalent of 5-6 first round picks (and more). Imagine what Tuch or Reilly yield on the trade market in single deals…and then add those values to Krebs + 1st + 1st. It’s too big of a price, and I personally don’t think it makes the team any better right now.

Better off making 1-2 smaller moves instead of trying to win the Eichel sweepstakes while “dumping” good salaries and weakening the forward depth.

I would love for them to grab hertl, he’s really the only other c I see as a fit. While they’ve had success without that top c I do feel that’s the reason they never got completely over the hump as having that guy is almost a must for any cup winner
