What Eichel in Boston would look like

Created by: BallPuckFellow10
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2021
Published: Aug. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
BOS
  1. Eichel, Jack ($1,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I can't see Buffalo retaining $2M-$4M that some people suggest. This would be a more realistic number.
BUF
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. Frederic, Trent
  3. Moore, John
  4. Wagner, Chris
Additional Details:
I want to make sure that people understand that this is not the trade that would land Eichel. Obviously picks and prospects will be in the trade. I am simply just showing the players that Boston most likely will/have to move out to make this trade work.

Was just about to post something like this, yeah, they’d have to clear a lot of cap, there might even have to be a 3rd team involved. I would assume Moore just gets put on LTIR and Wagner could be moved for a late round pick.

Wow. Buffalo isn't retaining anything. And this is a horrible trade. This wouldn't get eichel if Boston wasn't in the same division, let along in the same division. Woof

Haha what a coincidence. I can see Boston sending Debrusk, Studnicka, Frederick and a couple of 1st rounders as they most likely will be later picks. At least something in that ballpark. I think they can make the deal between themselves and Buffalo. Its not like Buffalo don't have any room to retain. Moving Wagner shouldn't be a problem. Moore is the biggest question. How do you move that contract.

Eichel to boston just doesn’t make sense in a salary cap world.

I think Buffalo takes Moore no problem in an Eichel deal. Maybe add Curtis Hall as another low level center prospect since it's in division but you're probably close. Debrusk, 2 1sts, Moore, at least 2 but maybe 3 of Studnicka Frederic, Beecher, or Curtis Hall.

I think they can make it work. Big problem will be next offseason when Mcavoy and Bergeron are up and you will have around $16M to resign them both plus two 4th line forwards and depth/scratch player. Will be hard but doable. Boston seem to find a way to make their players take team friendly deals. McAvoy at like $9.75 isn't unrealistic to think of. He couldn't get more elsewhere but if he wants to win in Boston he likely will have to take less. Bergeron can sign at like $3M which would give Boston around $3.25M to use to sign 2 4th liners and two depth options at $750K each. Its doable.

You are spot on here. A deal is definitely here to be made if both parties want to.

Ya, the big wildcard is mcavoy, and i wouldn’t make a move for eichel before mcavoy has a long term extension. He’s the most important part of the franchise by a mile, take care of him first. Maybe the bruins can work their magic and get another guy to sign below market, but I’m not counting on it. I think market is likely 11 million. Who knows.

Ya, the bruins probably don’t want to give up two firsts, debrusk, frederic, Beecher, and studnicka. And that still doesn’t work with the cap this year.

I agree with you. Maybe that is what they are waiting for before they pull the trigger on an Eichel deal. It is the most sensible thing to do. McAvoy is a stud. $11M for him isn't even an overpay.

If I’m Sweeney and mcavoy’s agent gives me a call and says 8x11 gets it done today, I’m signing.

Buffalo wouldn’t want to send Eichel to you guys
So they’d likely want you to overpay to the point where you’d have to walk away bc it would be so much

Just don’t see any way (realistically) that the Sabres would move Eichel to Toronto or Boston
Montreal seems like a real long shot too

Or in a Buffalo jealously despises the Bruins world...

The only way it works is if those idiots wait long enough for his NMC to kick in, and eichel is both willing to hold out and demand a trade to boston.

Buffalo has messed this up to the point they HAVE TO RETAIN TO HAVE ANY HOPES OF SAVING FACE WITH THEIR FANS. Their best offers were probably LAST OFFSEASON. Only now do the realize they are unable to recoup those losses.
GM Kevyn Adams has dropped the ball. Nobody paying crazy prices for a player that also blows your cap.
Oh yea... he also has serious neck injury accompanied with attitude/maturity issues.

Yeah, something goofy like that. They are not trading him to Toronto, Montreal or Boston without a massive overpay. And frankly, Boston doesn;t really have the young goods for that.

That's the trick. My fear is perfectly stated better than I could have put it here:

Still, if you overpay Buffalo might just do it. Make the overpay good enough they might even retain $1M to make it happen (I know Buffalo fans say no way but ypu never know what a team will do to get it over the finish line).

If you're getting Eichel, 1 and 2 C are locked up so the C depth (weak as it already is) is less critical. One of Beecher, Frederic, or Studnicka and Curtis Hall probably doesn't get it done. I would think at least 2 to be a convincing overpay.

Most likely way Boston lands him isn't the NMC (which means almost nothing as his alternative to not waiving would be to stay in Buffalo). It'd be a sneaky three way trade. Say Minnesota or LA goes and gets him then flips him to Boston immediately. Tricky and unlikely but not impossible.

Yeah but when he retires you get the cap space back. Problem of a 2C behind Eichel could be solved via trade. Easier to find one than two...

Would be easier to find….had the bruins not traded away all their useful assets and draft picks.

I suppose that's conceivably true, there's just one problem: Boston doesn't have the blue chips required to overpay for him. You have the same unintended consequence problem as the Blues, because we win enough that neither of us hardly ever picks high in a draft. Most of our blue chips have already long since graduated.
