22-23 Pens - The Slow Rebuild Begins

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2021
Published: Aug. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trading off parts for futures while signing some FA's. The Pens really won't be a major destination for quality FA's, but I tried to as best I can value the UFA's I signed.

  1. 2023 3rd round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
I'd imagine Lindholm signs with a team to take his shot at a cup, so the need for LD grows for ANA.

Zucker will be a good middle six plug for a season with all the UFAs CGY will have. Only one year left on his contract and is an upgrade for Lucic.

While Zucker is a better player, CGY isn’t going to pay that price to make this deal. The roster overall is actually better suited to the playoffs with Lucic on board than Zucker player bottom 6 minutes.

Even if Lindholm walks, we have plenty of LHD in the pipeline to fill his spot.

Can't see NSH having any interest in Marino.

Then you haven't looked at their defense situation next season, 22-23, not this coming.

You're no longer a team in a rebuild. You have an aging winger in Zucc and you may not even be able to keep Kaprizov. Even if you do keep Kaprizov, then your only true top-six wingers are Kap and Greenway. Foligno is a decent, but he's really a 3rd line winger.

Casual . Pit fan trying to troll, or doesn't know anything about wild. Clearly Zuccarello isn't aging, and was amazing last year. Wild also have Kevin fiala, matt boldy, Adam Beckman, etc but please do keep telling wild fans we are wrong

You can actually elect to not post at all in my AGM. If I think someone is wrong I'm entitled to think so.

Okay I get it, you are trolling. Jason Zucker was rid of because of wild depth at Winger being pushed to 4th line then traded

Zucc will be 35 in the 22-23 season and will start to decline. There's no guarantee about Boldy or Beckman. Fiala gets pushed down by Kapanen coming in and gives you incredible depth. But hey, who wants depth, right?

They'll still have Carrier, Fabbro, & Myers under contract then, same as now.

None of which are even close to the level of Marino.

I might not be as high on Marino as you - but even going with your assessment of him - what changes between 21-22 and 22-23, with regards to NSH's RD depth?
