They are either gonna trade some D men or put guys like C Fleury and Borgen in the AHL

Unless there's some trades coming ya really gotta question their selections of sooo many dmen.

I get they turned McDiarmid into a 4th round pick but wouldn't Grunstrom or Lemieux have made more sense as their selection from LA, either would make a good 4th liner on the Kraken.

based on their randomness of selections and UFA singings , they might not have thought through their roster build

Seattle’s forward depth isn’t bad, but yeah they need to move some D.

The only expansion selection that might play in the AHL is Alex True, since he signed a 2-way deal. But everyone they picked is waiver eligible.

Isnt Fleury not on the NHL roster? I dont think he would need waivers to stay in the AHL. Youre right about Borgen though, my bad

capfriendly lists Lind, Geekie, True, and C Fleury on the non-NHL roster. Doesnt that mean they would not need to be put on waivers since they arent being sent down from the NHL?

No, CapFriendly is just guessing at who the roster will be, since they can’t go over 23 players. The only players that aren’t waiver eligible under contract for the Kraken are Luke Henman and Joey Daccord.*

*So actually they selected one player that doesn’t need waivers.

They list multiple other teams with a roster size of 24 (DAL, EDM, etc)

Do all of their expansion picks automatically get called up to the NHL roster and need to go through waivers to go back down?

Sarcasm….

Although the Sabres had to go with 11F and 7D several times under Botterill because he refused to trade the 15 NHL level D the Sabres had at the time.

Their actual depth is non existent. They only have 12 NHL forwards at the moment. If someone gets hurt it will be an issue.

Some of those players will be attempted to waived to the AHL. Remember the teams claiming a waived player has to keep that player on the NHL or risk losing the player back to Seattle.
Plus are some of those demoted players are waiver exempt?

Yes. Anyone who is waiver eligible needs to clear waivers before NHL opening night to be able to get sent down.

But thats what im trying to get at: they need waivers to be sent down, but what if they are already "down"? Capfriendly lists some players as non-NHL roster so really they dont need to be sent down, they just stay where they are

If capfriendly was just picking only 23 players to show on the NHL roster then why wouldnt they do the same with EDM and DAL? It looks like Fleury, Geekie, True, and Lind are already on the non-NHL roster

In the off-season doesn’t really matter, plus CapFriendly is just guessing. If you want a better explanation, think of it that once training camp starts, every single player in the organization is called up, and most of them must be sent down before the final roster is complete. Hence why even full-time AHLers must be placed on waivers every single season before opening night.
