Building off a Vegas trade and Eichel

Created by: Treize131

Description
Saw the Vegas trade in another ACGM and it was certainly one I could live with and the Eichel trade is one that I'm gradually less interested in as time goes on. Buffalo is letting this drag on far too long and is rapidly losing leverage given it's already August which means any team trading for Eichel will likely not see him on the roster until mid-season, at the earliest.

If the Flames decide to back out completely on Eichel then the Monahan trade doesn't need to happen. Though we can certainly still move him to continue to make changes to the core.

Doubt they trade Stephenson straight up for Monahan at this point...

Both teams decline fast. If Vegas won't trade Krebs for Eichel why would they trade him for... Monahan? And getting Eichel for a bunch of scraps isn't gonna happen either.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t . Unless they take back a massive contract . They won’t be competitive for at least 3-4 years

Because you don't retain money on a player of jack eichels caliber. Especially with 5 years left.

Teams can go out and sign "danault" for 5.5 million for 6 years if eichel is an issue at 10.

Plus another left handed d to play with dahlin, power, samuelsson, Bryson, Ryan Johnson, hagg, and butcher. Can never have enough, that's what I always say.

Retaining could be fine, but it’s gotta be reasonable and for the right package.. guys that don’t need to get paid for 4 years. Plus is it just me, or did Monahan get more then Eichel here? Like that’s incredibly terrible.

When the trade has a note starting with something along the lines of "Judging by Eichel's medical status," you know it's going to be absolutely awful

I think retention is possible simply for the reason it expands your list. With the flat cap it’s not an issue of teams not wanting jack at 10 it’s that it’s increasingly difficult for any team that is willing to give up the amount of assets. Typically a rebuilding team with the cap space won’t want to give up the assets. Is refusing to pick up 2-3/yr for five years when you don’t need the cap room really worth it if it gets you everything you want?

No. Its not possible. It's not happening. Stop acting like this is a bad contract.

It’s not a bad contract…but it’s difficult to move to the proper buyer in a flat cap era. Especially after free agency. By refusing any retention. You have limited to probably 3 teams, if you retained 3 you probably expand that to 20. Which way are you likely to get the most assets?

No it's not. Zero retention, and that will be 1000 percent a sticking point in a deal for eichel, with a cheap the sabres are going this year.

Then they’re doing their fans and franchise a disservice if it’s not allowing them the best deal
