Rielly move

Created by: EnKay29
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2021
Published: Aug. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the extension to Werenski, Nurse and others this offseason, D men are getting massive contracts. Rielly would be on par with those caliber players and could be seeking a similar contract. That contract (or anything about 7 million really) the leafs could not afford without moving one of the big 4. The big 4 are not expected to move (nor should they). We have sandin who could take some of Riellys minutes (especially PP1 and o zone draws) and the leafs could still make the playoffs. The trade for Rielly i assume would be for futures. Those furtures then would more than likely be able add at the deadline while giving guys like Sandin and Liljegren a better opportunity.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Alexeyev, Alexander
  2. Bjorklund, Garin [Reserve List]
  3. Hagelin, Carl
  4. 2022 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
They take on Hagelin contract to pick up the the goalie prospect. The reason to trade Rielly was in the description. Alexelyev could potentially step into the NHL but more than likely play in AHL. Bjorklund gives us needed Goalie Prospects. The first provides the option to move one at the deadline (hopefully not for Folingo lol)
WSH
  1. Malgin, Denis [RFA Rights]
  2. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
This is under the assumption that Rielly signs an extension and the First is top 10 protected. Washington is in win now mode and have all D men over the Age of 30. A bit of a weaker left side with the trade of Dillon. Rielly gives them good offence from the back end under long term. They have 2 D expiering next season and Orlov after that. Hagelin is a cap dump. I would prefer a forward prospect but i dont think McMichael and Hendrix are available so i settled for Alexeyev.

Caps pass. They already have a pure offensive defensemen that sucks defensively in Carlson. Alexeyev is going to be really good and is NHL ready now.

Rielly has more value than that.

Caps pass. Can’t really afford to sign him to an extension. They could make it work but they’d be hamstringing themselves and D isn’t where they need to add more $$ to. They’ll likely add an LD at some point but more likely a second/third pair guy depending on kempny health and Feher performance

Capitals decline. We can’t afford that contract and we don’t need another LHD. We also do not need to trade away one of our best prospects and a first round pick in a deep draft. Really bad trade for us
