No way is that mix of guys worth Mercer and a 1st. Miller is good, but Devils aren't looking to just take on players. Miller doesn't put them over the top and no worth the price.

I feel like the Motte/MacEwen for Kuokkonen/Johnsson retained is reasonably close (Kuokkanen>Motte though, so NJ is probably sending more value than Van in this situation), but if I'm NJ, I'd have a tough time sending out a 1st, 2nd and Mercer for Miller.

Not saying Miller isn't a good player, because he is, I'd just be very, very wary of sending that 1st rounder without any protection on it, given that division is going to be extremely tough this year.

I'd do Mercer+protected 1st for Miller if I was NJ, but yeah, it's a very dangerous move in that division.

If they weren’t looking to take on players, then they wouldn’t have signed Hamilton or Tatar. They’re going all in this year and Miller is coming off 2 excellent years.

Take on BAD players (Motte and MacEwen) I should say....Hamilton and Tatar cost them nothing. It's not even a comparable.

canucks decline all three trades. We DO NOT need to shed money to sign both players.

Bro, before I even started re-signing anyone and not including bonuses, the Canucks have $14,064,341 left in cap space. Both will probably be signed for 8 years with Pettersson’s contract being comparable to Jack Eichel and Hughes’ contract being comparable to Cale Makar. The AAV I personally project them to get alone is $19,225,000 put together leaving you $5,160,659 over the cap, PLUS the $2,550,000 you owe in bonuses leaves you $7,710,659 over the cap all together. So yes, you do need to shed money.

Again not sure of your facts.around here its common knowledge that they will Not both be signed long term and that Jim has left enough flexibility to cover both contracts.Benning knows what hes doing thats why hes doing it.no way hes not gonna have enough money to sign the cornerstones of the team.
