should have just made it 4mill instead of this random mess lul. Honestly I would have done a 1 year show me as if he repeats that mess he did before oh boy is this contract gonna look bad

This is a bad deal and I find it fascinating how many think it's a good deal.

I'm not saying Hart shouldn't have been signed or they should give up on him or some nonsense. But I just find it crazy that Philly felt they had to give this much. Hart was literally the WORST starter in the league last year to the point they had to shut him down.

He's certainly young and with upside so deserved to be bridged but how on earth did he have the leverage to get almost 4 mil for 3 years? He's had two partial league average seasons, 1 great playoff year, and one godawful year.

I love how people talk about his previous years as if .917 save%, his career high, is some great season.
He was an average goalie that had a down year.

Here is the real thing for him. He's young. Only 22. He's most likely going to get better not worse. Goalies in general are streaky. But Most usually hit their peak later not earlier.
Given that, It's a good deal for the team. Not necessarily for Hart.

For Hart I hate the deal. This walks him to 25. Yes he's still a RFA, but if you do the math on it, 7 or 8 years at 25 puts you at 31 or 32.
In 7-8 years, given the trend, no one is signing a 31-32 year old goalie to big money on Long term. So he's basically cut him self out to 1 deal.
You can see guys like Hotlby having gone through this. You got contracts like Bob that are the lesson on WHY teams won't do that crap.
I think he should have bet on himself here. Taken one year at 22, hoped to play better and then cashed in. He signs a 5-6 year deal at 23, He signs a larger long tern deal at 27-28.
I think that is the more realistic trend for players in his situation.

The fact Philly got a decent cap hit, and the term that hooks him, is pretty telling his agent got took.

Very good deal! I think Hart will have a really great season with that improved defense. Very surprised that he agreed to sign a 3 year deal with less than a 4.5 aav.

This is such a weird AAV. You have to wonder if Hart's agent did that retail price trick and convinced him that the contract was closer to 3 million than 4 million.

They did the Matthews/Marner/Crosby/Josi thing. (Although Josi & Crosby are the only ones whose AAVs are still that number because of the change to league minimum a few years down the road)

Carter Hart is the real deal. He and Mackenzie Blackwood are the next BIG goaltenders. Personally, I think Blackwood is better, but this deal is perfect for Hart. I love it.
