Buffalo declines

I know it's technically not enough, but do they really have the upper hand? Eichel may not even start the season.
It's a decent return for a guy that wants nothing to do with that team.
Look a what they got for Reinhart.

odds are Eichel won't be traded until next off-season - I know people find this unimaginable but from what I hear it's the most likely outcome

Reinhart was a pending RFA one year out from his UFA.

Eichel is under contract for 5 more years and 1 year younger than Reinhart.

First we have little to no interest in trading Eichel in the Conference much less the division. Secondly, any Eichel trade with MTL starts with Caufield or Suzuki +

I could have said Buffalo declines your pathetic low-ball offer- would that have been more useful?

such cap lmao you know damn well suzuki or caufield wouldn't get offered and any other team in the league is not giving up that type of a player. Eichel's value has gone considerably down i don't care how good of a player he is.

Problem is for the Sabres next offseason limits their return even further, as Eichel's NMC kicks in and he can pull an OEL and say he will only waive for Boston and someone else. this will lower his value significantly because Buffalo won't be able to get a bidding war going anymore. Buffalo's best option is to allow Eichel to have ADR then return and trade him at value once the risks are reduced.

Then we'll hold onto him; we aren't selling him for discount prices. The Sabres are not Amazon

that's too bad then in 5 years when he's 30 and leaves for absolutely nothing

I would think it to be too expensive if MTL paid more than that for Eichel. It's a defenseman market right now, his value went down in the past 6 months or so. That being said, he's a superstar center, still young on an affordable contract (IMO).

In this year's cap reality, BUF would most likely trade to the team who "CAN" trade for him rather than who "WANTS" to trade for him and that probably make Buffalo's management want to be patient because in this scenario there's slim chances that they come out on top.

That might work if we were interested in trading him and he didn't want to be traded but it's the opposite

Yes the opposite is true Eichel wants to leave and Buffalo would like to keep him. However with how betrayed he feels regarding his surgery why would he help Buffalo by just waiving to go anywhere? Once his NMC kicks in he is not going to waive for teams like L.A., Anaheim, Seattle, Montreal or so on, he is going to want a contending team or his home town so good luck getting elite prospects or top picks from teams like Boston, Tampa, Toronto and Vegas who can't afford his contract and their own prospect pool is depleted. Eichel hold all the leverage after the 21-22 season.

fine then we keep him and he's with us 5 more seasons - this year is gonna suck but he'll probable only play about half of it , next year Quinn, Peterka, Portillo and Power probably come in and with Dahlin, Cozens UPL and Mittelstadt you have a little bit of a core - maybe they get a pretty good player out of the top of the 2022 draft - Buffalo should have the cap space to add a player or two if they want - at that point Jack probably still wants out but if he has played well his value should go up - the main thing I heard is Pegula refuses to do a repeat crappy deal like the ROR deal and would rather just hang onto Jack if that was the case.
