Description
In my previous post I suggested Moving Kerfoot and Keeping Mikheyev and Engvall. Here I have done the opposite. This roster would give Robertson more time to develop but it would mean that Liljegren wouldn't be able to be on the NHL roster if we had a 23 man squad. I think Jankowski can come in and do what Engvall/Mikheyev does at league minimum. He did it for Pittsburgh last year. Give me some constructive feedback about what you think.

I think this is good. I’d probably switch kampf and Kerfoot on the PK, and maybe switch kerfoot and bunting on lines 1 and 2. I could see this lineup happening

I could see that PK change. Bunting for Kerfoot could also happen. I just think he starts with Nylander as they showed good chemistry together when JT went down against MTL in the playoffs.

Personally I think the leafs are better with all three of Kerfoot Mikheyev and Engvall. The leafs have significant depth at forward this season. I wish they still had someone like Bogosion on that third pairing. If they were to move any of those three, I would be hoping for a solid third pairing rough nose in return.

I don't want to mover them either. However, this would be the only way to keep us under the cap ceiling with a 23 man roster. Someone is going to have to be traded here unfortunately.

I think both Kerfoot and Rielly need to be traded, hopefully soon. Kerfoot is a luxury on this team, and the Leafs won't be able to re-sign Rielly because the price for top tier defencemen has skyrocketed.

That would free up 8 and a half million to get a top 4 shutdown defencemen like an Adam Larsson and re-sign Campbell who is due a raise.

Spezza will not be 3c, doesn’t even centre the 4th line just takes faceoffs. I would move kampf to 3c and scrap the jankowski idea. Run simmonds Brooks Spezza on the 4th line.

I disagree with your Kerfoot take. I think he is a great versatile option. The Rielly situation is so hard to predict. Ideally you want him to stay and take a team friendly deal. Is that likely to happen? not really unfortunately. This gives the Leafs two options. You use him as a ''rental'' this season and let him walk or you trade him and get some assets for him. Larsson has a NTC so you won't be able to get him. He also just signed with Seattle so that makes no sense at all. I presume you mean someone in the mold of Larsson, and that wouldn't be a bad idea. For next offseason we have Kessel's $1.2M coming off the books as well as a reported raise of $1M to the cap. Those things alone should be enough to sign Campbell. If we move Kerfoots contract next summer we can probably stretch to give Rielly $8x8. We would have to fill out the roster with cheap league min players, but that is something Dubas has done this year.

In my mind we don't really have a 3rd line. We have our top two lines and 2 bottom 6 lines. Top two lines will play around 18 minutes each per night with the bottom 2 lines playing 10-14 minutes. If we need to lockdown more, the line led by Kämpf would get more ice time. If we need more offense, the Spezza line would play more. I still think Spezza can play that role. He also won't have to play PP and potentially only PK's for face-offs. Other than that he should only be used for 5v5 to be fresh, something he still can do.

kampf was brought in to be shutdown center. His the 3rd line guy. spezza couldn't handle 3rd line minutes anyway. spezza is great on the 4th line because he out classes everyone on the ice

Mate its not a 3C or 4C situation. Both guys are bottom 6 with different roles. Kämpf is to be a shutdown specialist with good face-off capability while Spezza can produce offense at 5v5. Some nights Kämpf will play more minutes, other nights Spezza will depending on how the game looks like. They should play anywhere from 10-14 minutes a game. People should really stop with this 3C and 4C stuff. If you have played hockey on a high level, you know that every line has a different objective to help the team win.
