Description

Per Cassidy:
- Coyle is "obvious choice" for 2C
- DeBrusk will start at LW3
- Haula and Nosek are preferred at center
- Forbort will get a look as LD1
- Reilly and Carlo will stay together
- Clifton likely to start at RD3
- Studnicka will be given chances to crack the lineup
- Swayman and Ullmark will battle for starts

In the event that this 23-man roster holds all season for the most part (i.e. John Moore is not recalled and anyone with a higher AAV recalled to take Studnicka's roster spot is cancelled out by paper demotions when Studnicka is on the roster) then by the trade deadline the Bruins will have nearly $4.75MM in cap space. That's enough to add Tuukka for the stretch run and postseason (if need be) and add an affordable RD3 upgrade or go all out for a top rental. Josh Manson is a player I would love to rent at RD3.

If they are seriously considering him at 1LHD, that experiment will end FAST.

First off, let me just say, ya. Awful signing. Now, I would say I don’t think you can consider whoever plays on the top pair as the Bruins 1LD. Last year that was mostly Lauzon. Rather than 1LD, I would more call it, “left shot player that McAvoy drags around for 20 minutes at 5 on 5.

Keeping Moore on this roster, especially given Cassidy's track record of not playing him, would be a huge mistake. His salary would kill their cap potential. If they want a veteran defenseman on the roster as the 23rd man, I would rather see Tyler Lewington than Moore. Or better yet, Jason Demers, Erik Gudbranson, and Sami Vatanen are all still available as PTO's to earn low money deals.

I prefer not signing anyone and waiving/trading Moore but we'll see.

Also Haula shouldn't be close to cracking this lineup.

If this is the case, it would appear to me that Sweeney is betting on chemistry, bounce back season for a few regulars and the new additions not repeating their last years performance!
Then seeing if Cassidy and the coaching staff can put this puzzle together and figure out what the missing pieces are!
I wonder who will get fired first if it goes horribly wrong?
