MTL Offseason And Deadline

Created by: Jobob77

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Offseason:
MTL <—>WPG
I think it is a pretty good deal on both sides. Stastny played big minutes last year and had a great production as a LW. He normally has really good faceoff stats and he is an awesome playmaker (Could be solid with Hoffman or Toffoli). He is a way cheaper option than Dvorak. WPG already has a lot of offensive talent on their team. A solid shutdown winger like Lekhonen could fit in their lineup. MTL may be overpaying considering the RFA status of Lekhy and the age difference.

MTL <—> WSH
Justin Schultz woud be a good presence on MTL powerplay. It helps WSH with their cap situation and they get a younger NHL caliber D in exchange with some picks.

MTL <—> EDM
Allen has the potential to be a starter in EDM. He showed in the past that he could be a solid starter. Koskinen could use a fresh start and nothing is better than rebuilding his confidence as Price’s backup. If Koskinen is not doing the job, next year you can call up Primeau and let Koskinen go to UFA.

Season/Deadline:
I think the best spit for Drouin it is on the 1st line with Suzuki and Caufield. Suzuki is very good in his zone and Caufield is also a good backchecker. Both could cover Drouin defensively.
Option 1 (If Drouin has an awesome bounce back season):
Trade Byron before he comes back from his injury. Mysak, Struble, Fairbrother, Brook and/or Tuch could be the compensation.

Option 2 (If Drouin has a good/ok season):
Trade Drouin for pick and or prospects before Byron’s comeback. Drouin’s value should have rise a bit. By trading Drouin, you can call up Poehling if he is still doing well in the AHL.
New Lines would be:
Caufield - Suzuki - Armia
Toffoli - Stastny - Gallagher
Hoffman - Kotkaniemi - Anderson
Paquette - Poehling - Evans

Winnipeg won't trade Stastny just after signing him to a contract now or at the TDL.

caps won't trade Schultz especially after the Dillon trade that would further weaken there team and why would a team that you would think be contending trade a top four d-man for picks if they don't have cap problems

Caps already have few good OFD and they could use a D like Kulak that has good defensive stats. They have too many RD in comparaison with LD. Finally they don’t have a cap problem if they have a 20 man roster but they can’t go to 22.

they have a left handed d coming up in alexeyev who is 6'4 and great defensively, also have Martin ferhervy who is also left shot and has solid defensive stats there nothing special but solid.

Totally agree with you but for both they could use an extra year AHL. Moreover next year you have Vitek, Samsonov and Sprong to sign, Schultz will probably go UFA.

Trading Allen away would be renouncing to be in the playoffs race for a low first. This is bad.
