San Jose fleeces the Sabres on this one. So... unlikely.

Not gonna lie, I had a dream the Sharks traded Eklund in an Eichel deal and woke up with fear.

That'd be a shocker for Sabres. Meier's QO is a problem and they get no C prospects here.

I'd try my luck elsewhere if I were BUF. Just don't see SJ having the pieces to bring the guy in. They're not going to include Eklund and I'm not blaming them for it.

Ryan Merkley is arguably still a B prospect.

Has San Jose ever once been reported to be in on Eichel by someone credible?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I want nothing to do with Eichel, my Hope is to steal Strome from NY to help them clear cap space, or Dvorak from Arizona. both are a better fit and even if we got both they are still cheaper than Eichel and don't come with massive injury concerns. (fused disks or mechanical disk, either way his neck scares me thinking 1 awkward hit and career over!)

Sharks are notoriously tight lipped when it comes to trades so even if they are in most the time no one knows and then out of nowhere they come out of left field and snatch players up (much like the Burns deal, Thornton deal and Karlsson deal's)

NYR likely won't want to part with their prospects whom they're high on, and even the ones that they would, it'd probably be marginally better than this offer. An added bonus of Eichel to SJ/LA/ANA is having him away from the division. Eichel's value also isn't what it was a few months or even weeks ago. If the pressure to move him reaches a point, I could see them doing this deal. They'll need Meier and Simek to stay above the salary floor this season.

we have the 5th ranked prospect pool guys we actually have the pieces and Buffalo has stated they want him out west so they don't have to play against him much!
more accurate trade though IMO would be
Eichel for Labanc, Brandon Coe, Artemi Kinazev, Tristen Robins, Magnus Chrona Ozzy Weisblatt and the 22 1st unprotected and the 2023 2nd.
thats a lot and out prospect pool would go from 5th overall to about 18-20 with 1 trade!
still it is doable, albeit stupid.
another option too would be upgrading the 2nd in 23 to the 1st and adding Thomas Bordeleau for Buffalo to take on vlasics deal for cap purposes (get buffalo to the flor and keep us from the ceiling) but adding these pieces probable puts our prospect pool back even further to like 24/25 area. that's a lot for 1 player who might not play this year and who knows if he is the same guy after the neck surgery. I don't want another lame duck Karlsson deal.

My only problem with that is so is Calgary and they were the team that was very late to be reported as in on Eichel. I just dont see SJ justifying adding another heavy contract with the way their team has trended recently

Js; we aren't really a 5th ranked prospect pool. It was using pure analytical analysis and data (just projections and analytics no subjective analysis or opinions etc etc etc) - and said data also ranked the Sharks goaltending prospect pool 1st OA (while also including Adin Hill). Pretty flawed. We do not have a #1 rank prospect goalie pool nor should we and that catapulted us a ton all the way up to #5 Overall on that data ranking.

It wouldn't be a ranking to put all you eggs into (IMO).

I'm hoping DW doesn't pull that trigger as it would decimate our solid prospect Pool we've built the last 3 years. my only argument is we have the pieces and we do, doesn't make it a smart decisions though!

Its the same thing with Anaheim, they were the 2nd worst team in the league last year with the worst being Eichel-less Buffalo. So in theory Anaheim was the worst team in the league. How would selling the Farm to add Eichel make them a good team? Hell I dont even think they would make the playoffs as a bubble team with Eichel even if they got him for free

you have a valid point, and my opinion was honestly figuring us at around 8-10. the goalie prospect took into consideration mostly Gaudreau, Melnichuyk and Chrona, all three are highly rated and out of the three they are projecting at least one should make it to all star status. but they had our forwards and our D pretty high (top 10 all 3 categories)

I can’t really disagree about the NYR part, but from a BUF perspective they’re trading Eichel for An overpaid bottom pairing defenseman, Merkley who could very much bust hard, Meier who is good but has a scary QO, and Wiesblatt who is good and likeable but very unlikely to be anything super special. And the 1st they’re getting has a bunch of conditions tied to it which I highly doubt the Sabres would like.

weisblatt is a middle 6 guy (2/3 line)
merkley 2nd pairing D with offensive focus
Meir has top line potential but anyone’s guess where he ends up (possibility he has already peaked
simek is second pairing on a weaker team bottom pairing on most teams

Any Sharks/Sabres trade for Eichel would have to include Eklund and next years 1st which is a BAD idea.
