Description

Buffalo gets the reported offer from Vegas of Smith, Tuch, Karen’s and a 1st, plus Georgiev.
Vegas gets Eichel, Hajek, Gauthier and Strome at 50% retention.
NYR gets Karlsson and Dugan.
Vegas can’t fit Eichel without moving out more money - they only got a 3rd last year to move out Schmidt so precedent doesn’t lend to a big return in those scenarios.
Buffalo gets what may be the only offer on the table, plus a goalie that can be a 1B at the NHL level.
NYR fix their own center problem with a well rounded player, add a prospect and hopefully leave enough cap space next summer to sign Zibanejad, Fox and fill out the rest of a roster.

So NYR gets stuff for junk? Why would Vegas need to bother including NYR at all in this? Remove Georgiev, and Sabres likely make that deal directly with Vegas. This is a convoluted mess.

I don’t think Strome at a point per game or Georgiev is junk. If Buffalo had that offer from Vegas, why haven’t they accepted it?

I'm confused by New York's role in this, it would make more sense for a Vegas-Buffalo trade and then New York trades with each team.

NY adds another piece (a piece Buffalo could really use) to the standing Vegas offer. NY gets Karlsson which allows Vegas to get under the cap after taking on Eichel. Vegas gets a year of Strome who isn’t a drop off from the centers they’ve been skating recently. Buffalo probably wishes they got more young assets - Smith and Tuch don’t seem to fit for them but I’m going off an offer that has been widely reported.

VGK would want Eichel with Karlsson as a top 6. Strome isn’t a PPG center by himself unless Breadman is coming with him. Also Georgiev has very little value in the grand scheme of things. It’s easy to acquire a FA goalie and better ones we’re just traded for little return. VGK should just deal with Buffalo alone.

If he’s part of the Eichel trade, they can’t take that exception. Smith’s 5m off only offsets half of Eichel’s contract. It seems like someone else has to go.

I’d rather the Rangers let Buffalo and Vegas figure it out themselves and focus on Dvorak from Arizona, but I wanted to run the numbers on this as a plan b.
