Can Eichel Zibanejad and Fox work long term Part 3

Created by: mvp13
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seeing if Eichel, Zibanejad, and Fox can work long term with fair values

Part 3 notes: This year is fairly comfortable, but the following year is an absolute disaster that luckily CapFriendly won't even let me attempt. Kakko, Lindgren, Lundkvist, Miller, and Schneider all need new contracts after this year. Barring some insane cap raises, I just don't see that as being humanly possible.

Conclusion: Kreider, Trouba, or Zibanejad need to be apart of any type of Eichel trade to make the cap comfortable down the road. Or, perhaps more simply, the Eichel trade just can't work out. These are some pretty swell teams over 3 years, though. It could be worth it. And who knows what will happen with the cap 3 years later at the end of the day. It was kind of fun to see how it could potentially work out.

Lindgren, Robertson, Lundkvist, Schneider, and Kakko all up after this season -- I don't think it's worth it for any team to have 4 players taking up nearly 50% of the cap.

Honestly if New York were able to make an Eichel trade without losing Lafreniere, Zibanejad, Fox, or Kakko they'd be a real-life NHL 21 Franchise Mode team, but I doubt Buffalo moves him unless one of them is included, or unless its a massive overpay.

With or without Eichel, the Rangers will be in that territory with Panarin, Mika, Fox, and Trouba, anyway.

But yes, my conclusion is that 3 years later the trade will come to haunt the team big time. Could those three years be worth it, though? Even without Eichel, a 2nd line center will cost at least 4million... it's still tough to sign all of those players, PLUS the players we lose in an Eichel trade. No matter what some drastic measures are going to be needed. But, it's always possible the cap can raise better over 3 years than currently projected

I think that's underrating Kravstov a little bit. Regardless, replace Kravstov with Kakko and I think it all plays out similarly for NYR (at least cap wise)

Very doubtful the caps going up.
4 years for laf brings him direct to UFA without buying out any UFA years. That ain’t happening.

Yeah yeah, that's what everyone says around here... then out of nowhere they announce it's raising a minimum of 1million every year for the next 6 years. Who knows, maybe ESPN and TNT really help the sport and things get better

They will. But that’s not the issue.

The owners lost money the last two seasons because 75% of their money comes from the gate. They fronted the bill, the players are paying it back by a flat cap for the next few years. That’s how they came to a position where last season could happen.

Don’t forget the the cap is supposed to rise 1M each year. Also a Kreider buyout or trade would likely happen. And Lindgren traded. This opens up plenty of space

Wow you're really relying on Kakko and Lafreniere barely improving. Not to mention nobody getting signing bonuses

Very good experiment, with the way the Rangers team is build now makes it seem like we can make this trade but the more you look into it the harder it gets. If an Eichel trade were to work you would need to include either Kreider or Trouba and even then it is still a headache.

I didn't forget, I raised the cap one million each year. Unfortunately buying out Kreider doesn't help because his contract is very back heavy and doesn't save any money the first year, and not much in the following years

Not everyone deserves an 8x8mil right off the ELC. Plenty of wingers get short term below 4mil deals after the ELC. You only see big ones if they are consistent point per game or centers, which neither are. The Rangers hold all the cards on their first few contracts after the ELC. Even if it goes to arbitration, I'd be ****shocked if it goes much above these numbers

And I'll account for performance bonuses whenever they decide to make those parameters available to the public. No teams on here account for performance bonuses because it's impossible to do so... don't tire yourself out posting that on every thread

Yeah, trading Trouba to BUF would really solve a lot of issues. The problem is all these NMCs, and with all the issues in BUF I doubt anyone will want to waive them to go there. I think Trouba would even help out BUF since they really don't have anyone on the right side, and he's really not that overpaid (1 or 2mil per year). BUF can afford the cap hit for the duration most likely

It saves
2M yr 1
4M yr2
4M yr3
3M yr4
Then 4 years of 1.5M cap hit. But that’s worst case, he will be traded first

What star has gotten a 4M deal in recent years after their ELC? Again you are completely relying on your young players falling well short of their expected potentials
