It's too early in the morning to be having what you're having.

Kings wouldn't do Byfield-Kaprisov 1 for 1.

I really don’t think it will take $10M to sign him for 3 years. I think he’d drop down to 8M if we budge on term.

Kings decline. That's way too much for a guy who already has a contract lined up in the KHL.

For 3 years of Kap at 5m cap hit?? Playing with Kopitar as well? I think they’d be tempted

The full trade is: The Kings leading goal scorer last season with 2.5M retained, Gabe Vilardi (2017 - 11th overall) , Quinton Byfield 2020 -2nd overall), two unprotected firsts, and a third. And even then the Kings are over the cap. You have destroyed the major points of the Kings rebuild, their picks for the future, and last seasons leading goal scorer. So yeah, this makes the Kings bad short term, mid term, and long term

So last season Dustin Brown (17 goals) + Gabe Vilardi (10 goals) is a loss of 27 goals, who you replace with Kaprizov who had 27 goals last season. The Kings have no net difference in goals, lose center depth (Vilardi), their best prospect (Byfield), and best recent graduate (Vilardi), two 1st rounders, and a 3rd. It really isn't hard to see who has the advantage in this trade.

And Kaprizovs center last year was Victor Rask..... do you really not think he’d put up more goals with Kopitar??

I don't even know if he'll play in the NHL which is why you are desperately trying to see what value teams would pay. The Kings wouldn't move Byfield for Eichel, you have to be crazy to think they would move him for a handful of years of Kaprizov.

Thats way too much for Kaprizov, hes 24 so its not like he has exponential potential growth, he is what he is at this point really. Hes a big threat to return to the KHL as well.

Absolutely not. Vilardi and a first I could understand. The rest of that is insanity.

Kap has 3 years of control if he was a 5m cap hit his cost per point would be basically the same as Mackinon, he’s only going to do better playing with Kopitar or any competent center. Guys worth more than Vilardi and a 1st.

“He is what he is at this point” so he’s a PPG player where you would be picking up a Cap hit for him if 5m for the next 3 years? That contract would be the biggest bargain in the NHL. He’s a better goal scorer than Panarin and put up similar point production in his first year. Panarin also played with better players his first year. The Panarin trade was for cap reasons, Wild would get a significantly better return.

Yes hes an almost point per game 75-82 point player whos contract walks him right into UFA. That return is too much for that. If you think thats the biggest bargain in the NHL you should check out Mackinnon, Marchand, Pastrnak, Barkov.

Youre getting from LA

Best Prospect
Top 6 FWD prospect
2 potential lottery picks
And Dustin Brown (who you are asking LA to retain on)

Again, not giving up a 7th for this guy, the Kings have had enough problems with Russian players to invite one more.

Marchands 2nd contract was 4x4.5 those 4 years he didn’t put up PPG numbers till the final year of that deal. Those were his age 25-28 years. To say that this contract wouldn’t be a bargain at a 5m cap hit is wild. And the fact he put up his numbers with VICTOR RASK as his center means he can carry a line and will be Marchand level playing with Kopitar at a lower cost. To give up that much is very much worth it.

Where at all did I say it wasn’t a good contract? You said it was the best in the league, I said no it isn’t and gave examples of better contracts. Completely ignoring the fact that the trade itself is terrible

Outside Mackinon, Barkov and Pasta, Kap at 3 or 4 years by 5M is a bargain. Also need to factor in that Barkovs contract is up after this year and Pasta and Mackinon are up in 2 years. The value you get from Kap being on a contract at that low of a cap hit is well worth giving up Byfield and a first. MN retaining 5m on the contract gets us another first, and also taking on Dustin browns final year is worth another asset. Valardi probably stays out of the trade, but It being Kap for Byfield 2 firsts and Dustin brown allows LA to have extra cap this year and go for it next 2 years as Turcotte and Valardi develop.

No, he's not. That sound you don't hear is the cadre of knowledgeable fellow Wild fans coming to your support. The fact that he's holding you guys up after one year is a bad, bad sign. I hope that Fiala and Kaprizov don't turn into this season's Eichel and Reinhart.

Apologies for not realizing that a 23 year old who put up just under a PPG in his first year of North American hockey playing with an incompetent center has officially peaked, my bad. We still have his rights for the next 3 years. He is clearly bluffing here but he may be burning every bridge in MN to do it. Unless he puts up 100+ points in his years in Russia he’s not going to get over 9M when he comes back by playing the next 3 years there and he knows it
