Kaprizov Next Year

Created by: vikhodush

Description
Idea came from Leafs and Sens fan, this is a year out ('22-23) - adjusted it a bit as I thought the package to MIN and the contract for KK was low on AAV. Also don't think Miller was necessary but he would've been gone since this is '22-23. Put Gardiner on LTIR since he might get another back surgery and that could be all for him. Otherwise dump him to a rebuilding team for a pick for the sake of argument. I wanted to make a more realistic version to see how this fits into the team longer-term. I think they can make it work with some big contracts coming off the books this year and in the future to create more space for Svech long-term deal, extensions for Aho, Turbo, Pesce.

I don't think KK to CAR makes sense b/c I personally think he doesn't want to play in a place like Minny or Carolina. But for the sake of this exercise, let's say he would do a short term deal w/ CAR. I gave him 3x9.5M which I think is a deal he'd be looking for so he can cash in again and choose where after this deal. Could also be a 2 year deal.

Svech bridge signed in '21, so 1 year left on his. Troch re-signed with a slight pay raise and Necas signed to a bridge deal. Few rookies in Drury, Jarvis & Sellgren get their shot. Don't love playing Drury and Jarvis on the third line together but doubt they slot into top 6. Staal should help bridge the gap from a 2-way perspective but something feels off on that line.

Yeah Necas or bust imo.

As for not wanting to play here or in Carolina, I don't know if he cares where he plays as long as he's paid big-time money.

Could be a good fit with Svechnikov

I get why the Wild would want a player like Necas in a deal for KK - but idk how much leverage the Wild actually have. In other posts I've seen that the Wild want prospects and futures for a deal like this so that's where I went with it. If the asking price was Necas + I'd personally pass.

I guess it just comes down to what other teams would be willing to offer assuming KK would agree to a deal in that location. Again, I think that MIN would prefer to get something of value over him just going back to KHL. I get they have leverage in a sense, but it's not like they're in a great position either.

Might be an exception there but it's hard to say, this whole thing is about money.

I don’t mind this starting point from the Wild perspective but I also think it’s worth thinking about doing an all futures deal. I think it was always a long shot that KK would resign in MIN once he hits UFA so you should cash in to the highest bidder now while retaining half on a 3 year deal. The market on KK at 4.5 mil for 3 years would be huge.

Which probably then puts Necas in play, lol.

I think Kaprizov has a higher ceiling than Necas tbh. I can see 70 for Necas but Kaprizov might go for 90+ a year

If the Rangers could make it work, a deal with Chytil, Miller and more wouldn’t be a bad option

Yeah that makes sense. Without retention a lot of other teams might be out of it which is why I structured it this year. I would also think that MIN wouldn't want to retain over the next few years b/c of the buyouts, but I guess if they're gonna go into another re-build by doing that they might as well retain and get even more assets.

If that's the case tho, I think Canes would bow out.

True - but the headache and lack of team control that seems to be in motion down the road from KK and his camp make Necas more attractive imo. I think Kaprizov is better and has more potential but long term I could see them being in the same tier.

Minnesota could easily retain 4 mil over 3 years since his salary is already budgeted in. And if they are getting back high end prospects, you probably end up with more cap space than expected.

To me it just looks like Kaprizov wants a 3-4 year deal at 8-9 mill and then after that wants to sign a massive contract that would probably pay him tops in the league

I’m bullish enough on Jarvis where I consider a futures package with him involved, too.

Boldy-Rossi-Jarvis future 1st line. If you’re trade Kap, might as well trade Fiala

I'd do Jarvis potentially but not Necas. Starts getting tough though since KK is probably a 2-3 year play for the Canes. Gotta make risks and bold moves to make the team better and go for the cup tho i suppose

Absolutely. If you move Kap, Fiala goes too. Embrace the tank for 4 years and load up on futures.

This is your cup window, it’s the time to move futures to get current production. Moving Jarvis to keep Necas is the smart move.

I’d like to see Suzuki and a 1st as the base with another piece. IDK what but I’d ask for Bokk.

Carolina rejected a trade for Laine when asked, Minnesota are going to be met with laughter if that's the starting point. Necas is 4 years younger, and has a very similar potential to KK.

I don't like the idea of trading for someone who really reaped the rewards of a weak division, but from a pure value standpoint, you're way off. This likely needs Jarvis over Tieksola.

The argument about reaping rewards from a weak division is a very underwhelming one to me. He was over a ppg against Vegas and Colorado, and anyone that actually watched his season wouldn’t be concerned over this point. It’s not as if guys like Doughty are bad dman, and Kap fooled him several times.

I get your concern, but it falls apart immediately if actually watch back his games.

I would do 1st + Suzuki + 3rd or a slightly lower prospect than Bokk (Tieksola, Ponomarev, Matheos, Gelinas).
