Islanders definitely decline, they are pretty set on the right side.
Detroit probably doesn't do that, even though I really want Copp there, I'm not willing to pay Rasmussen plus a pick for him. I'll keep the younger cheaper player who could turn out to be better.

I wouldn't trade Rasmussen if I'm DET right now -- he's got a fantastic contract, and I think he can turn into a really effective player.

I think Rasmussen would interest the Jets.

Detroit will decline that offer.

We know that WPG don't have the cap to sign Copp.

We can offer sheet him for 4.1 million and you can't match it without selling off someone else.

Such an offer sheet will get you a lone 2nd round pick in return. Why not accept Namestnikov in addition to a 2nd to avoid your problems.?

Bad take. WPG absolutely has the cap space to sign Copp if we simply send Beaulieu to the minors. Everyone talks of "offer sheets" but the chances of that happening are slim to none and not a realistic tactic.

Detroit isn't trading Rasmussen unless it's part of a package that lands us a bonafide star player.

Sending Beaulieu to the minors will still leave you above the cap.

With the relief you get from Little you will have $4,383,688 to use on Copp (and I haven't seen anyone saying he'll sign for that) and you're two players short of a full roster and with no room to bring up any player in case of an injury.

Who will you put on waivers if one of your goalies gets injured?

I'm speculating Copp signs for 4-4.25 on a 3-4 year deal. He can ask for close to $5m all he wants but there is no chance he gets it.

Also, we would have enough room for 2 extra players (1F, 1D) leaving us 1 short of the max 23 person roster.

In the event a goalie gets injured, they could would simply use an emergency recall.

I realize this scenario isn't necessarily ideal and if Copp absolutely will not sign below 4.25, then yes he gets moved. I agree Rasmussen probably wouldn't be included but WPG will 100% get fair value in a trade with DET or someone else.

AFAIK an emergency recall doesn't get you around the cap of the player you're calling up. All it does is allow you to exceed the 23 player limit.

If you have to call up a player as injury replacement that player's cap is counted as is the injured player's cap as long as he's not on LTIR.

You don't have any possibility of calling up any player at all and will have to play with an incomplete bench if you get more than 1 forward or 1 defender or 0 goalies injured.

Two defenders on IR and you play with 5, 1 goalie on IR and you have to waive a forward and send him down to make room under the cap to avoid losing by default.

I'd trade Copp before I'd put myself in that position as a GM.

I could be wrong about the emergency recall...my bad! I do agree, putting yourself so close to the cap causes a massive headache, I would trade Copp as well if we can't find a deal that works.
