Jim Benning is stupid but not that stupid. He isn’t trading Pettersson away for a rental. The biggest reason he made moves to make the team in win now mode is to make sure guys like Pettersson want to stay. Trading away Pettersson pretty makes the whole plan useless

Trade wouldn’t work unless Van Flipped Fiala. Rask and Dumba are 10M Fiala needs a contract, and Quinn Hughes needs a contract. Van has 13M of cap after this deal they would only have 3M left.

Vancouver fans almost control Jim Benning at this point. They got the Sedins back and Jim knows if he screws something up like a bad Pettersson trade, everyone will be coming after his head. As for the trade, yes someone like Kap would probably be included but flipped to another team because he’s definitely not gonna stay when he hits UFA so at least we get stuff back for him

I can guarantee you one thing. No member of any NHL team, or front office gives a damn about any fans. They’re a non factor. They care zero about fans.

Maybe the GM doesn’t care about the fans but I think the owner breathing down your back keeps GMs from completely ruining a team. Jim Benning is dumb and probably gives into fans more than any other GM. He also isn’t super bad at trades and this trade doesn’t make a sense and acquiring Kap doesn’t make much sense. That’s all there really is to say. Pettersson isn’t getting traded.

He gives into fans exactly as much as every other GM. Which is zero. The only reason they would care if we all died tomorrow is the loss of revenue. Players, coaches, GMs, scouts. No one cares about the fans at all.
