If Coyle does not step up

With the cap going up in 2022-23

https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2021/08/06/nhl-salary-cap-reportedly-projected-to-rise-in-2022-23/#:~:text=A%20rise%20to%20%2482.5%20million%20in%202022-23%20would,escrow%20balance%20owed%20to%20owners%20is%20paid%20off.

Make or break year IMO for Charlie Coyle with playing on the 2nd line with Hall and Smith. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was at time with Hall and Pastrnak. If he does not have a good year he needs to be moved. His CLAUSE DETAILS: 2020-22: Player submits a 10 team no trade list; 2022-25: Player submits an 8 team no trade list; 2025-26: Player submits a 3 team no trade list.

If Aleksander Barkov wants to leave I think Boston would be a great fit and we would only have the cap by shipping out Coyle.

After seeing Dougie Hamilton haul in $9 million annually on a seven-year deal with the New Jersey Devils, McAvoy could set his sights on a similar deal.

Mcavoy is better than all the d men that just signed with the exception of makar. He could easily ask 11+ on a long term deal

Coyle is not worth a 2nd if he comes out slow next year tears of joy He's not worth that now...His contract sucks and if he's not good this season he becomes a cap dump so you'll be paying the 2nd to lose him

There’s a lot of players that could take more but depending on a hometown discount and comparable contracts it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Charlie takes a deal close to what Hamilton got.

Not saying your wrong but Barkov could also get 11 sure but also he might wanna leave some on the table to help spread around a little bit to build a championship team like what the Bruins have.

Nah I don't see him getting much more than Makar (7 digits).

That concept about leaving a little on the table has worked for the bruins…with their own players. Once a guy gets to the point where he can get offers from every team in the NHL, that’s going to be tough. 11 might be a discount. Players like him don’t hit the market very often, and they never hit the market at 26. Is it crazy to think seattle might offer 7x12.5? I don’t think so.

As far as mcavoy goes, we haven’t seen many cases of a player of his caliber getting his third deal in RFA lately. Mcavoy is certainly in the makar category, and makar just took 9 million on his second deal, a long way from UFA. I would think McAvoy has to come in significantly higher than that, based on proximity to UFA, age, contract length, and arbitration eligibility.

Not comparable situations for the reasons listed above.

Why would Florida (or any team) give up a 2nd for Coyle if he's not preforming?

I disagree. I don't think mcavoy is on the same level as Makar (IMO it's fox Hedman Makar, and then mcavoy Hamilton and that group). And also while yes it's his 3rd contract, he still is an RFA so I don't think he gets 8 digits.

Eh, whatever. Pretty clearly he’s a top five NHL d man, so ya. He’s in that group. Once you’re at that point it boils down two what you value more (offense, defense, two-way etc). One thing I will say is don’t you dare put him in the same category as hamilton, who is so far behind mcavoy he can’t even see him. Hamilton was the canes third best d man for f sakes. He’s worth every penny of 11. Bruins best player by a country mile.

Well, he has a 10 team no trade list now. He doesn’t exactly have all the say in the world.

I think the point is that McAvoy's next deal will eat up more UFA years while Makar's deal only covers (i believe) 1 UFA year. I think Werenski's deal is probably a better comp for McAvoy and i think most would agree McAvoy is a better all-around player. BOS has had success keeping their guys at below-market numbers so we'll see. But I don't think Makar's deal will factor in much as a comparable.

He could be the best bruin very nice, but saying Hamilton is way behind mcavoy and was the canes 3rd best dman is just ignorant. He literally was 4th in Norris voting.

Ya because the Norris has turned into a points contest. Being considered for the Norris while not being one of the highest scoring d men is absurdly rare.

The Hurricanes thought dougie was the third best option at D. Maybe even fourth at times.

I mean the dman who led the league in points this year didn't get a single Norris vote so that take doesn't really work.
If you think the canes thought he was their 3rd dman you're dreaming sorry bud.

Why didn’t hamilton play more than slavin and pesce then?

There’s a million scenarios that are possible. One year bridge. 8 year. Middle of the road term. He could take that discount that everyone is hoping for (myself included). There isn’t going to be an answer when he signs.

I think he’s an 11M player. You disagree, and that’s fine. I’m guessing a lot of people that judge d men strictly on their PP production are going to think the same way. The makar contract comparable is what i think is well, just kinda stupid. It’s apples and oranges.

I dont think you understand what im trying to say. He has a full nmc, it doesnt matter if he has a 10 team, 8 team or 3 team no trade list, he still needs to give the ok to sweeney if there is a trade in place. And i doubt a Massachusetts native is waiving his nmc unless the team isnt a contender anymore
