Adding Copp and Kilorn

Created by: vikhodush
Team: 2021-22 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 11, 2021
Published: Aug. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jets are tight up against the cap depending on what Copp ultimately signs for. Admittedly I'm not sure what a realistic contract or trade value is for him but hopefully I'm close, feel free to chime in with counters or suggestions. He'd slot in nicely into the top 6 though.

I realize Tampa doesn't need to move Kilorn or really anything else at this point but figured they could reload some assets for him and give a couple of their young guys more of a chance while creating additional flexibility to made TDL move if necessary to address other areas of their team. If not Kilorn, looking for vets who can step into the middle 6 and providing depth scoring and leadership with 1-2 years left on their deals.

For the following year - with the remaining cap space, plus salary cap increase of $1M, Nino walking - that should create roughly $8M of cap space. That should be enough to cover Necas, Troch & Bear raises to keep them. Cole could potentially not be re-signed if more cap space is needed and somebody like Sellgren might be ready to step in next year in his place.

I would have to think the Jets look at that. You might be a bit high with 2 players and a 1st though.

That’s probably an overpayment, I’m completely fine with giving up the first, but I’d prefer it be a lesser prospect than Suzuki. They would probably still want a center in return though, maybe Drury?

I love that trade as a Jets fan but agree with the above, you could probably get him for a little less than that.

Haha I figured you'd chime in after our latest back and forth - wanted to make the return good enough so appreciate the feedback.

Yeah - that was my initial thought but was having a convo w/ Windjammer in another thread and wanted to provide a strong offer. I'd do that same deal with Drury or Rees in place of Suzuki if Jets accepted.

Would you guys do the same deal but replace Suzuki with either Drury or Rees? Both still really good center prospects that project as middle 6 centers. Suzuki has a higher ceiling but also don't think his development has gotten off to the best of starts due to a flukey eye injury.

I'd be very interested in Drury!! Don't know as much about Rees though.

I think any of those guys might work. Chevy may think different, but I would think any of those guys at least gets a conversation going.

What do you think Copp will ultimately sign for? 5x5 or is that too rich as well?

Pass on Copp even if the asking price would be slightly less than that. .

Copp is 27 and has one season above .5 ppg production. He doesn’t have a ton more to grow. Most of his points are from assists and we need goal scorers as well.

That's fair - I do think given the opportunity to play in the top 6 you could see him sustain his production from last year. Believe he played a combo of 2nd/3rd line minutes and quality of teammates last year. Something I need to look into more to understand how sustainable last year's growth was.

Honestly, too much for Copp. You could get him for Suzuki and a 2nd alone. Especially given the circumstances, teams knowing Jets are in a cap crunch. Copps arbitration date coming up.

Ngl this team has the potential to be so deadly with those two top 9 additions. Very possibly a cup team if the chemistry is not too disturbed after what's been an eventful summer for the Canes. If Tampa's not willing to deal Killorn, a guy I'd take a look at is Silfverberg at a much friendlier price.

Yep that's fair - just wanted to not undershoot the offer. Definitely happy to spend less on him smile

Yeah, they'd be a really fun and dangerous team. Those moves would probably make the rest of the offseason more palatable for majority of us fans. I don't love all of the moves they did but I also don't think they got worse. Still need to see what this front office does with the rest of the offseason before passing final judgement. They're clearly a top 6 winger short right now and could benefit from two top 9 additions like I've done here. They have the cap space and the prospect cupboard to make some of those moves via trade since they let guys like Saad and Tatar go to other teams even though they would've been good fits as well.

think that is a bit of a high price but think the Jets might want Martinook instead of Fast because they look weak on the left side as i see Stastny plating and teaching Perfetti

Definitely would rather it be Rees instead of drury. It would be interesting if we added coop though

Jets are overflowing with centers in Scheifele, Pierre Luc Dubois, Paul Stastny, Adam Lowry, and two very good C prospects in Perfetti and Gustaffson. Would be looking for a solid 3rd liner and a prospect or high pick. Think the deal is a slight overpayment but the Jets definitely accept.

Yeah that’s consistent feedback. Could sub out for a winger prospect like Bokk instead
