I think that this deal is good for both sides, given the context. Reinhart gets to keep his options open and gets to free agency earlier than most players; Florida gets value out of having traded for him. And there's nothing to suggest that he won't like it there in South Florida.

6.5 is a lot for a guy whose career high is 25 goals, but theyre getting his prime years so this could turn out okay for Florida...if it does, hes going to really get paid next deal.

Good signing by Florida. They got 2 UFA years at a fair price. Looks like they get a W for the trade with Buffalo.

This is a lot like the Vrana contract where the money is right on value but the term is concerningly short.

Looks more like a "future deadline trade" contract to me.

Is it a lot for a guy who was 11th in the NHL in goals, scoring 25 goals in 56 games? Context matters.

This is a great contract for Florida - Zito continues to prove he’s one of the best GMs in the league. I think it’s perfect term for Reinhardt, he should provide 1st line value for the next 3 years but he’ll probably fall off after.

It would cost 7-7.5 mill to lock him up for 4-6 years and he likely won’t be worth that much in his age 29 + 30 seasons.

Fair AAV, but I would've went for more term. Still a good deal, though.

At this cap hit the Panthers should have gotten him for 5 years.

I'm going to be lazy and quote from my Pionk post. Make Reinhart the fourth:

Quoting: Me
Really interesting trend some players are taking this year with the flat cap. That's the third higher end player in a few days to take 5-6 mil in a late RFA contract but keep it at 3-4 years to be able to still get a big UFA deal.

It's quite the gamble as they perhaps could have gotten more term and if they decline or get injured they probably gave up a lot.

Flipside is if they continue their play (no improvement even needed) at 28-30 (Pionk will be the oldest of the three), they'll likely be able to get a large 5-6 year deal in a larger cap environment.

Good on them for betting on themselves.

Looks like Florida is serious about retaining Barkov next year by surrounding him with same-age talent. While I think this contract is a little high /or/ too short, I really like what Zito is doing in Miami.

All these 8 year deals handed out like candy and now this week 3 to 4 year bridge deals.

Interesting.

Guessing Nutivaara and Vatrano needs to go next season. They need to have 10ish available to re-sign Barkov.

its the 25 goals in 54 games that I think got him the 6.5, as that pushes him to a 30 goal guy. It averages out to 38.
I'd say that 6.5 is on par with what other guys who were peaking out at that rate got. I think they money is fine, I'd have expected the term to be more. It is what it is.

It doesn't. Since entering the league full time, he has amassed 134 goals. It puts him in this category of players:

Eichel 139goals $10mm
Landeskog 138 $7mm
Kreider 137 $6.5mm
Schenn 137 $6.5mm
Ehlers 136 $6mm
Toffoli 136 $4.25mm
Couture 134 $8mm
Nelson 134 $6mm

Context matters.
