Didn't mean to quote your post tears of joy

The comment was supposed to about the trade. Pesce is not a bad defenseman, but we have no one to fill the gaping hole left in Marner's absence. Galchenyuk is no where near that much money, and only getting one pick back for our teams leading scorer for 3 of the last 4 seasons doesn't seem like enough. I dont think people realise how big a Marner trade would be

Canes pass. Marner is a great player but his contract is prohibitive, especially to a team that is going to need every inch of cap space over the next few years.

Canes also aren’t trading Pesce who is on an unbelievable contract after losing Hamilton already.

Pesce is easily one of the best defensive dmen in the league. Jarvis is an elite prospect who is has talent comparable to Marner and Point. Suzuki is a top end talent. Pesce is untouchable, and Jarvis is almost certainly untouchable as well. Canes don’t need Marner’s cap hit. Canes would be stupid to do this trade. Also don’t want someone who has been a part of a team’s losing culture. Would rather just go after Forsberg. At the very least, the Preds can win a playoff round.

Now to say someone has talent compared to a guy who was 4th in league scoring, fastest player in nhl history to 200 assists. After Brad Marchand is the best 2 way winger in the league. That's a very big set of shoes to fill. Oh if Marner played the last regular season game he would have lead the league in ice time for forwards 2 years in a row.

Don't worry the leafs wouldn't either. Not even close to enough for Marner. There is only 4 or 5 guys in the league that wouldn't be a straight up trade for Marner, every other trade you would need at least 5 pieces.

Sounds good. I don’t think other teams see it that way with his cap hit complicating things but sounds like leafs are content keeping him anyways.

yeah theres a time and a place to care about future, when you are clearly a top 5 team in the nhl you do something to go for it, not continue to wait while your better players walk, or trade them away for picks.
Tampa recognized this, they mortaged their future to win back to back cups,
Same with pittsburg in 2015 they traded away their future to win the damn cup.
I mean thats what we are going for yeah, winning the damn cup, how many years of rookies do ya think will make an impact.

Picks and prospects are great to have, but not if you are not gonna use them. How many years down the line are you looking that a 19 year old and a 20 year old make or break the situation?
Now im not about to sit here and say they wont be good players, because by all rights the quick stats ive been able to look at make them out to be quite good.

Neither will be as good as mitch mind you, Most notably because at their age he was already in the nhl as an almost point per game player.
