Next year: Depending on what Bergy asks for you try to ship out unimportant, bottom-of-the-roster players. If all else fails buy out Coyle. Hertl is probably 1C at that point.

that's FINNALY a legit trade that would pry Hertl away from the sharks. IMO

Yeah I feel the Sharks fans frustration as most people on this board seem to believe a 1st and a mid-tier prospect is enough for a C of good age they then plan to play in their top 6. I wouldn't mind paying up - you could strong arm me into another second, especially if you take Moore back for example.

Gross overpay and good luck with Mac, Bergy, Hertl needing contracts next year. Extending Hertl is a pipe dream.

this trade is 100% conditional to the Kane drama though,
if Kane is suspended or his contract is terminated the sharks have no shot at the playoffs this season and i could see them trading Hertl for the max they can get. and a C that most hockey analysts say is top 20 and is 27/28 should get more than a meddling prospect and a late 1st IMO.
your offer of a late 1st plus a 2nd a good prospect and a younger NHL player is the kind of offer that i see as fair.
had Hertl demanded a trade and was unhappy in SJ i could see him going for a lot less but the sharks don’t WANT to trade him and he likes it here so his value is greater!

Refreshing to see a strong offer for Hertl

Yeah I addressed this in the explanation/discussion segment which you have yet to read after commenting on 20+ of my posts. It's almost impressive at this point.

Edit: I think Hertl is incredible and that the current Sharks roster would fall apart quicker than fast without him. I guess I don't know what would convince you of a player being better than your current perception of him. If you answer that I can probably provide something.

This just got a bit more interesting as I actually disagree with you on Kane. I think the Sharks could play Balcers in that spot and get even better results. I also think Kane has been helped by some stronger teammates. I guess this season might show who's correct!

Okay but you didnt interact with it?

I would ship; Moore, Foligno, Forbort, Carlo, Coyle and Ullmark if needed. Buy outs are options too.

So dismantle the team for a 2nd line center. Trading a 40 point FW, a 35 pt FW they just signed, buyout another 40 pt FW and hold dead cap on him for 6 years and dismantle the team for a 50 pt FW. You think that’s sound business? Take out his one great year he has averaged just over .5 ppg.

I like Hertl, would be a good fit. Does not work though. If they were going this route it should have been done before free agency.

Yes.

So we have a difference in methodology. I think Hert would score 70-80 easily on Bostons second line. I think many of the players you mentioned would score less on a bad team. I think many players are available at league minimum or for a million or two to fill gaps of players we are currently paying 3-6m.

I think point totals are less than 50% of an indication of what is 50% of a players ability (offense). They are very dependent on situation and usage. You are correct in description, but I don't think it holds in prediction.

If one player could make a team an instant contender, why are the Sabres not a contender?

cause it’s one top player added to 4/5 other premier players surrounded by good coaching, good atmosphere and solid depth players.

buffalo has/had none of that just see how much better hall played after leaving Buffalo

Literally the only acceptable Hertl trade I have seen on here. It was rejected by me until I saw the inclusion of Beecher who i really like.

Checks all the boxes for SJ, despite not being my "preffered" structure of a package, this definitely would be a realistic trade.

Can't wait to see a certain individual respond saying that Hertl will only cost the 1st.

Sorry it's hard to read sarcasm especially on here where you have avid fans and a lot of arguing!

Yeah definitely. But there is a bit of truth to my earlier post. I really don’t expect much from the Sabres anymore, but when Eichel is playing I do expect that they would be a bit closer to a Wild Card slot than they have been. Mind you, it might help if they stop trading away the players they draft, which end up becoming really good… for another team. One player alone can not make a team an instant contender. Kind of why there is no ‘I’ in ‘Team’.
