San Jose has no reason to do this. They won't be competitive any time soon IMO

Agreed. But anything can happen without $11.5 mil.

How much to move Trouba ($1.5 mil retained to you guys at $6.5 mil) and then you retain $3.25 mil and send him to Detroit at $3.25 mil? At $3.25 mil you should be able to get something solid from Detroit for him to help them along as they start to get better.

    That’s exactly what would happen.

    Interesting idea. I'd say a '24 1st from DET (or a pick/prospect package) and maybe a 4th from NYR.

Hhm, I like it. 🤔 Got me thinking cause we need to get creative to make more cap space to sign our young guys. Plus at $3.25 mil Trouba would instantly turn into a commodity and be pretty valuable.

Canes maybe do a 2nd rounder, but won't be a first.

And would also require some retention by the Yotes.

I put Gardiner in there for the cap space. Besides, if the Canes do like we expect, their 1st will basically be a 2nd.

My boy Jeff would be good on a 1st wing with Eichel again

leveraging the future to dump a player who was elite 2 years ago and is still only 30 and can rebound (not that it’s a guaranty but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities) i’d rather hold onto him for at least 2-3 more years before we pay this kind of ransom for a cap dump. plus with his NTC he would obviously say no.

I think the Canes strongly consider that move…as a matter of fact, I think they consider any move that moves Gardiner out and brings in a useful piece. This this would work.

Anything can happen when you get rid of two lottery picks.
