Description
First post on the site:)

Welcome habs fans and other teams fans (except bruins and leafs one ahah) this is my 2021-22 prediction for the opening night roster for the Montreal Canadiens. Pretty simple for this one I juste made my lines and sign the two remaining RFA :

Jesperi Kotkaniemi (bridge deal : 2x 2,5m) and Ryan Poehling (prove deal 1x 0,9m)

This year will be a diffucult one with the return of the real divisions the habs will be in fight with Tampa Bay, Boston, Toronto, Florida and the poor Ottawa and Detroit. I think the top 3 will be very hard to make so for the habs I will predict a 4th or 5th place with a participation into the Stanley Cup playoff.

My prediction

1. Florida Panthers
2. Tampa Bay Lightning
3. Boston Bruins
4. Montreal Canadiens
5. Toronto Maples leafs
----------------------------------
6. Ottawa Senators
7. Detroit Red Wings

Welcome to CapFriendly!

The KK and Poehling contracts are exactly what I’d expect as well.

This is a good prediction of what opening night might look like. The only change I might make is to split up Savard and Chiarot to give the two defensive defensemen a counterpart who provides a little offense.

Nailed it. As it stands, if nothing changes, this is the lineup and the line combinations 100%. I would simply put Poehling instead of Dea as a scratch because hes entering his D +5 year and he deserves to be with the team. Wild card is Norlinder at camp that could force Kulak out of the lineup. If thats the case, I expect the D to be :

Edmundson Petry
Chariot Norlinder
Romanov Savard

Hey salut bienvenue sur le site !! Tu va voir c'est mieux que HFboards ou autre car ici y'a pas la limite linguistique, but beware sometime people bite hard when they are not happy. As for your roster, I would only swap Paquette and Evans for firsts few games to see if the veteran can outperform the kids and then give a chance to Evans or even Poehling.

You are signing Poehling to a prove it 1 year deal than not letting him prove it? I think he makes the opening night roster to be honest!

I don't know if Poehling makes opening roster but I'm glad someone is finally mentioning him. His speed, size, shot and smarts were impressive last season in Laval. He is knocking on the door.

I'd put Poehling in over Paquette opening night.
I'm not sure if it's better to have him watch first then throw him in cold, or let him hit the ground running, but I'd like to see him get a real opportunity as early as possible.

I'll also caution again about playing Drouin (or Hoffman) with Evans, whatever line that might be. Evans is our defacto Danault replacement, and you don't necessarily want either player in those tougher assignments.

Thanks you! And I know the second pair are too much defensive and not mobile.. But maybe we will have a surprise and Romanov will surprise us and deserve his place on the 2nd pair, to be honest I hope it will happen wink

I really think we will have a battle between Dea and Poehling, but at worst, Poehling can start at Laval and dominate and get a call. I hope Poehling can do a little of the work that Danault was doing neutral

Personally I think if you put Drouin with Evans is not really bad because we won't just see a trio against the opposit big trios anymore, I don't think Evans can do the job Danault was doing. Everyone will have to get be in the mix (Suzuki, KK and Evans)

Evans will not be as effective as Danault, but he will be inheriting defensive zone draws. You don't want wingers with him that aren't known for their two-way game.

Have fun and cheers for HABS smile
