I think marner is really good, but theres no way i would pay that for him. Thats a ton of assets to pay for a winger, a winger who makes 11 million dollars, that can walk away in 3 years. We are better off keeping olofsson, two promising prospects, and the 2 late firsts, plus the 6 or so million in cap space. And before this turns into a "well then why do you think eichel deserves that" argument- a franchise center under contract for 5yx10 is far more valuable than a top line winger under contract for 3yx11.

Additionally, adding Marner doesn’t make sense for the timeline. We’re going to be around the bottom of the league next year, and I don’t think we’ll improve enough with Marner for it to matter. It doesn’t make sense to trade those firsts and prospects for a player who won’t be here when we’re ready to compete.

I don't disagree what you both are saying. I wasn't sure what the value was for Marner so I just overpaid, but I think he can fit into the timeline because he is still young (24), by the time his contract is up, the team should be good, and it gives the team a veteran to help along their young core of centers. I agree that $11m is a lot to pay for a winger, but he is a complete player and with him and someone like Tuch, it gives you a pair of young veterans that are still in their prime when the rest of the young core is ready.
