That Tarasenko trade is just bad for the devils, in fact I’d be hesitant to trade Mercer for him one-for-one right now. I want to be as nice as possible on the Eichel trade, you’re going to need better prospects in there than Foote and Thompson, and asking the Sabres to retain 3 million over 5 years for that paltry return is a no-go for them. Quality over Quantity. I don’t think the Devils should be in on Eichel. Buffalo will want Hughes+, which New Jersey would be foolish to do. They just need to be patient and let everyone develop, they will be a playoff team sooner than later.

Eichel is too big a question mark and is not worth the assets from a growing team.

Just looking at that Tarasenko trade gives me heart palpitations. No no no! I would give the 3rd and the 4th for Tarasenko, but certainly not Mercer!

Then the Eichel trade. Put the value aside: I'm not trading for Jack Eichel until he's had his back surgery and can proven he can play again. With things being what they are, I'm not touching him or his experimental surgery. Buffalo should let him go get his back taken care of (however he prefers as long as neither option voids their contract insurance).

We are almost giving more for Tarasenko than we are for Eichel.

Also, Devils are out of Tarasenko talks after viewing his medicals, per Sportsnet.

The Sabres asking price from Vegas was Krebs, Smith, Hague and a 1st.
(so...a lot less than Hughes, Hischier and Holtz).

The Devils comparable to the Vegas ask would be Mercer, Zacha, Bahl, 1st.

I wanna try and be nice, but this is definitely top 3 worst Eichel trade proposals I’ve ever seen. Also Tarasenko was left unprotected in the expansion draft and we the devils are giving up Mercer ++?!? In the nicest way possible, these are some of the worst trade proposals I’ve seen

Should have clarified...Sabres are going after quality for Jack. So one of Nico/JH/Holtz should be the centerpiece IMO. Probably doesnt work tho
