Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Unless Copp, VESA and Gus crank and really get paid, we have enough room for Copp making a decent salary and a modest raise for the other 2. What this also shows is that we have enough room to keep all the D(I think one of the new guys will be traded for Samberg or Heinola)

Copp was saying in his interview that the contract negotiations started at 4/5 years, but the moves shrunk the room, so some of speculation of him wanting out of town is false, or not near as large as speculated. Probably couple year run til there’s a large decision or two to be made.

Yeah the cap looks good. This is also assuming Dubois regains form and earns that deal. Which could very well happen. I have an odd feeling a trade is brewing with samberg or heinola. Unless schmidt is being moved and or DeMelo, it’s unlikely they get in the lineup.

I wonder if in two summers there’s a move on from scheifele and Dillon, rather large blockbuster or separate. Stanley needs a Dillon to mentor him into taking his spot along with samberg. I just put scheifele there for shock factor, probably a 5x9.5 in chevys pocket for him.

I hope Dubois earns that contract this season. I found he played better when with Wheeler last season so I hope they play him with Wheels this season and let Ehlers finally get first line minutes. I agree that the Copp 1 year deal was to keep the band together for this season and he will sign an extension by Christmas using some of the cap space from Stastny's expiring deal. The biggest question for me who do the Jets move to allow for Heinola and eventually Samberg to get into the lineup? Can't see them moving Morrissey so it likely ends up being one of Dillon or Stanley. Unfortunately, big hitting defensive defensemen are what the Jets need to offset the more offensively minded Schmidt, Pionk, and Morrissey. By 2023, I envision defense pairings of:

Heinola-Pionk
Morrissey-Schmidt
Stanley-DeMelo
Samberg

That would have the Jets trading Dillon and burying Samberg. Nice to have too many top 4 eligible dmen.

Something has to give at some point to allow Heinola and samberg to play, what that is I don’t know. As long as scheifele is making less than 10 for less than 6 years I’m cool with it.

I'm going to admit that I am not a huge fan of Scheifele's game. His lack of commitment to his defensive responsibilities and his long meandering shifts drive me nuts. Scheif has tons of talent, he just needs to play the game harder. Only IF he can round out his game, he is worth a massive contract.

Yeah I share the same sentiments, his defensive game is severely underdeveloped and is becoming a real problem. He’s an elite offensive C, but a below average defensive C.

It’s never going to happen, but I would flip scheifele and Dillon or morrissey in 2 summers for as much as can come back and retire Wheeler. It only works if it’s 2 years ago Dubois, and there’s no major misses in the recent draftpicks, grab a tender to push helly, and a rhd or two and some picks and depth, try to create a 3/5 year window of playoff success. Basically trade back into Jets drafted Jets, and no more thrashers. I would get over a 5x9.5 scheifele, but like a blockbuster better with one interesting 26 and under squad with an abundance of cap space, not that free agents are coming, but if some of these kids hit, hopefully there to stay for primes.

One nice thing with Scheifele is that Wheels massive contract is up at the same time so the cap space will be there

I kinda wonder if it’s a Chevy/Maurice/Wheeler/scheifele window upon us and only 2 at most make it beyond the 2 years. 45-1 dogs to win the cup this up coming season, a ton has to go right, but I like the hunger and redemption sort of tour, with a change on goalies and lack of a 1c add in Vegas, and lack of veteran physical adds to a young colorado, there might be a Cinderella window available for a Calgary or Winnipeg or possibly even Edmonton.

Likely right on the Chevy Maurice wheeler scheifele window. I’d imagine that Chevy and scheifele make it past the 2 years. Definitely a chance this year for a Cinderella story.

Would it be a Cinderella story? I don't think I'm that biased but we have a good team(on paper) and we should be a top team in the west. Yes, injuries take a good team to a ish team but if all goes well overall, I can see us going far.

Our forwards should be better than last year, our defense on paper is really good and Helle is Helle...

At the risk of taking this in a completely wrong direction, maybe the Jets fans are Cinderella and Chevy is the fairy godmother?

Like the others have mentioned above based on odds yeah it’s a Cinderella story. But I do agree that the Jets have a strong team this year, probably the best roster on paper since their 17-18 run. So that gives me hope. I just hope things come together very well this year, Dubois regains form and hellebuyck is at his Vezina level. If so the team is scary.

If all goes well for the Jets, 1st place in the central isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

I’m honestly very excited for the future of this team, Jets have some sneaky prospects coming up in Lucius and Chibrikov. Not to mention some NCAA players who seem to find their ways in Blaisdell and Smith. Nikkanen is another intriguing player.

Was thinking of tossing a couple bucks on Florida/nyi, And possibly flames/Jets. But concentrate on Jets basically. Isles and Florida in the 20ish to 1 range

Yes ..like we don't have big bodies compared to 2018 but our D is as stacked imo...for example, we had Chiarot and Myers as the 3rd pair and now we have Stanley and Demelo...I like
