Breaking News: Old guy moves to Florida.

well at least this year he keeps it all, over half of it would have been taxed in TOR lol

There's still federal tax and jock taxes. The estimated tax rate by on here is 40.56%, compared to 54.3% in Toronto. $103,066 more post-tax dollars (before factoring in what he gives his brother for agent fees).

Personally I'll be pulling for them to win it all this year (barring a crazy run by the Sharks that nobody in the world is predicting).

A definite HOF'er. But no real value on the ice at this point.

Thornton should just sign in Tampa if he wants the cup so bad.

I guess you didn't watch the Cats last year. No team posed a bigger threat to the Lightning then the Cats last year and they only got better this summer. Im happy for Jumbo.

I would actually say they were pretty even with the Islanders, but Florida was the only team that had Vasilevskiy's number. I think Florida will be better than Tampa in the regular season, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tampa does better in the playoffs

Who else would you put ahead of them? To me the only teams better than the Cats on paper are Tampa Bay, Colorado, and Vegas. (With the Isles maybe being ahead of them as well, but just not on paper)

Tampa is three-peating. I like the Cats but not putting money on them

This is the weirdest signing I think I have seen.

Honestly thought he would go to Tampa.

Florida just makes 0 sense to me

I don't think they will. I think the Cats or Isles will take them down.

How many years do you want to play?

Jumbo Joe:

He is the epitome of the rink rat. Jumbo is lost without hockey, he will go as long as Jagr.

Well sure, but it’s not like Joe had an option to sign in Tampa Bay, so there’s nothing to complain about.

Considering Jagr seems to be playing as long as is humanly possible mostly to keep his business afloat, I think Jumbo will retire younger than Jaromir will.

Where would he play on Tampa? They don’t even have the cap space to keep him on their roster.

4th line with Perry and PEB so you get Thorton-PEB-Perry as the 4th line

He’s not better than Mathieu Jospeh or Patrick Maroon.

With the departures got a feeling Maroon and Joseph will be mostly on the third line

If thorton joined tampa we probs would have seen

Palat-Point-Kucherov
Killorn-Cirelli-Stamkos
Maroon-Colton-Joseph
Thorton-PEB-Perry

strange, not really any place in our lines for him

They must have promised him a spot if he signed. He will probs be on the 4th line but also would not be surprised if they give him some time with Barkov

In order to hang up one’s skates, one first has to be able to *bend* their knees.

Unfortunately for Jumbo Joe, and us, this means he’ll be playing forever.

Beards are not mullets. And Jagr he is not.

It's just sad at this point. Someone needs to take Ole Yeller behind the barn. He's not an NHL player anymore.

Maybe not, but he still has those "intangibles".

Tampa will not be winning the Cup, bet Vegas $100'000 on that.

They added the curse of Corey Perry, back to back Stanley Cup loser. which will counter balance the back to back to back Maroon Stanley Cup winner.

gees with 3 Cup rings does that make Maroon a better lock for the HOF than Jumbo Joe.

Good luck Joe. I will always cherish the fact that you were a Maple Leaf. Even if the outcome wasn't as desired. Still insanely happy that someone who was my favourite player for years finally got to play for my favourite team. Even if he doesn't play too much, the Panthers just got better.

Wait, you’re not a Canes fan? I assumed that given your username.

What about 4 time Stanley Cup winner Chris Kunitz?
