HE MADE JUST OVER $4 MILLION LAST SEASON!

He took a pay cut, because he's north of 30.

Doesnt matter how old he is or how much he made before hand. Nobody forced him to take the discount. As let be real someone would have given him 3mill.

As such if we look at 3c making less and are better Bonino is one of them

If he has a bad season, they'll be stuck with his cap hit and nobody will touch this contract. I thought JB was done overpaying bottom six forwards?

The poolman contract showed that nope. Its stronger than ever as now he went from bottom 6 guys to his Dcore.

No body offered him more, because he's 33 years old. He's seven years older than Dickinson and if you don't think that is important, then I can't help you.

Does not matter age we keep saying it. What matters is how good you are

But if your stuck on age 3c that are his age or younger and still better while making less

yea but its Jim Benning so you never know

Benning has no issues with RFAs. Name one RFA he mishandled in his recent tenure.

Nick Bonino

maybe, but he is also on the wrong side of the age charts and dickinson's contract keeps him during his prime. I get why you named him, but the better value deal is probably here.

me too but with what Werenski, Nurse and Jones got I wouldn't be surprised

All of these guys had prior bridge deals prior to these monster contracts. They definitely raise the bar, but Hughes doesn't have that kind of bartering power as a black hole RFA. Bridge deal seems very likely, and that shouldn't exceed 7.

This isn't even an overpay. All the advanced stat people were happy about the trade, and saw his defensive upside. This is a fair contract. I was totally expecting him to get 2.85x2. On the optimistic side I saw no less than 2.25m x 2. I'd rather the 3rd year because I don't see him being the type to experience hard regression. He's automatically the best 3C we have had in a long time.

You cant afford his next deal lul

If Petterson gets a 7mill bridge deal and Hughes gets 8mill Canucks wont have the money to extend him

Stick to the leafs.

This is like me trying to say that the leafs can't afford Nylander next year. And trust me, leafs fans hate when other fan bases pull crap out of nowhere.

This has been a pretty good offseason for VAN so far and I have not many issues with it. Any doubts I do have I am postponing to see how players perform. Still, the pay raise that Boeser is likely to get isn't going to be significant as the market for top 6 forwards isn't insane. I am not worried in the slightest. He won't be moved.

He played 3c more than people think. Checked dobber as Ottawa's second most used 3rd line was dadonov-paul-white and Paul was center for the majority of that lines playtime

Pettersson is less than a point per game. If Brayden Point, in 2019, can come off a 92 point season and sign a 3 year deal at $6.75m per then Pettersson can sign for less than $7m. If he wants to play for a winner, like he says, he should be willing to take a modest cap hit.

Vancouver is going to be significantly more top-heavy than Toronto next year (even with bridge deals).

What are they going to do when their bridge deals expire?

you're paying 8 mil more in TOR for your top 3 players and VAN is "significantly more top-heavy" HTF does that math even work?

It's a decent deal for VAN.
I think people on here are wanting to hand guys way to much money. Pettersson isn't even a PPG player. But people wanting to throw him insane money. He is close to a 30 goal guy though if not already one. But he has some injury issues. My guess is he goes in the 7s.
Hughes on the other hand. You take away the PP and his game really suffers. 64% starts in the Ozone and a 50% corsi. But people want to hand him 8-9 million. Are you kidding me. He shouldn't get that. My guess is 5-6 range is a fair value. He's a one trick pony. His corsi sucks, he's bleeding goals against in even strength play and 5v5 play. He's just not a very complete defenseman at this point. People are too obsessed with points and not looking at the whole player.

Good deal though you are now cap strapped since Petey and Hughes will each at least get 7

In this example ... Vancouver's top 13 contracts take up $5,200,000 more cap-space than Toronto's top 13 players.

And I would argue (correctly) that Toronto's listed top 13 are significantly better than Vancouvers.

Despite this, Vancouver will have $5,200,000 less cap-space to fill out the final 10 roster spots.

And if Pettersson + Hughes don't sign bridge deals this will be even more lopsided next year.
