Capped out- no space for ESvechnikov

Created by: MisstheWhalers
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 15, 2021
Published: Aug. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rumors about the Jets having interest in Evgeny Svechnikov but they're very capped out so I'm not sure how he'd fit unless they just plan on sending him to the AHL which seems possible but sh*tty for Svechnikov who's trying to salvage his NHL career.

Options to make Svechnikov fit would be trade out someone like DeMelo, Copp or Beaulieu or send Gustafsson or Vesalainen to the Moose as they're both still waiver exempt, could see the Jets doing that with Gustafsson but am pretty certain Vesalainen will be a full time Jet this season.

Guess there's also the possibility there's a bigger trade coming involving one of the bigger names on the team who carry a five or more million AAV but that doesn't seem likely.

Is Chevy done??

Wonder if they play it like a pto and possibly lose a bargain before opening night, I’m still a little worried about Comrie penciled in.

Maybe they pickup Kesler's LITR contract. That would be out of character for Chipman, but maybe Thomson is throwing caution to the wind.

Any UFA is affordable to the Jets if they are willing to sign a $750,000 contract. I think the Jets offer Svechnikov an opportunity as they are weakest on RW which is his preferred position.

I'm more worried about further regression for Wheeler and Stasnty, a return to the mean for Copp and Lowry and this team not being able to score enough, so much of this season's success will be dependant upon a rebound from PLD.

Show me the room, what I've done here shows $218K in cap space.

I'm not fully versed in the ins and outs of LTIR but I don't think adding another LTIR guy would help.

So Winnipeg tries to make their cap situation worse?

I've already waived Niku here, no one claimed him and he's with the Moose which is the exact same cap savings as if he was claimed.

Yes sending Beaulieu down or if someone actually claimed him would free up enough cap space but then who's the 7th dman and do we really think Chevy is demoting Beaulieu?? I don't think he'd do that but maybe.

I'd have to look but subtracting Beaulieu is $1.25 gone but Samberg or Heinola are about $850K I think, not sure if there'd be enough room for Svechnikov, maybe but not totally sure.

I think Wheeler and stastny going to be out of top 6 by Xmas and going to be a line with Gustafson by playoffs, vaselainen with Connor and scheifele and svechnikov with Dubois and ehlers. Harkins or nash with Lowry and copp. Wheeler stastny still get pp time, but a lessened role and workload. Blueline probably fixes itself by Xmas with a moose start for niku/heinola/samberg, after injuries and by playoffs heinola gains a starting role in top 6.

He would sign a one year 2 way deal and either win a spot in camp or go to the Moose.

What is the best strategy to get players to clear waivers? Send them early as teams are still giving their guys a look or send them late when final roster decisions are being made?

Toninato to the Moose is a possibility, I just don't see them sending Beaulieu down but maybe, don't think there'll be a taxi squad this year, haven't heard anything about one anyway.

Could see Gus being the 1C with the Moose this year and being first callup if injuries necessitate a callup.

Hard to tell lol, I think someone like Svech would be safe given he cleared waivers last year. Same with Toninato. I think towards the end of the preseason is best, just do it in bulk
