crazy 5 way Eichel deal

Created by: Connor_McJesus_97
Team: 2021-22 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 15, 2021
Published: Aug. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Buffalo gets: Vegas 2022 1st, Oilers 2022 1st, Jack Dugan, Peyton Krebs, Oilers 2023 2nd(they will get a vegas 2023 1st if they retain 2m on him)
Vegas gets: Eichel
Arizona gets: Vegas 2023 1st, Koskinen, Rangers 2022 3rd
Edmonton gets: Smith(2,5m retained by Buffalo), Georgiev(1m retained by Rangers)
Rangers gets: Dvorak

This team is still over the cap. Could Vegas pay a team to retain on Eichel? a 1st for retaining 2m is that fair? Could we see some ridicilous trade like this? This was for fun I love madness.

great guy but he would sadly have to leave, Devils aquiring him would look really dangerous

Zona not interested. Their ask is more than a 1st and 3rd without the cap dump for Dvorak, doubt they’d take that.

I love the creativity on this but sadly the league is too boring for something like that.

Retention doesn't cost that much. For instance, VGK paid like a 5th for Leafs to retain $1,4M when they traded for Lehner.

Also it's an interesting idea, but if we consider what the teams lose compared to what they get, we have:
    VGK:
    - gets Eichel
    - loses Krebs, Dugan, Smith, 2022 1st (VGK), 2023 1st (VGK)
    - just not worth it imo

    BUF:
    - gets Krebs, Dugan, 2022 1st (VGK), 2022 1st (EDM), 2023 2nd (EDM)
    - loses Eichel
    - slight overpayment for Eichel imo

    EDM:
    - gets Smith, Georgiev
    - loses Koskinen, 2022 1st (EDM), 2023 2nd (EDM)
    - meh, but with the retentions in place possible

    ARI:
    - gets Koskinen, 2023 1st (VGK), 2022 3rd (NYR)
    - loses Dvorak
    - bad value for ARI

    NYR:
    - gets Dvorak
    - loses Georgiev, 2022 3rd (NYR)
    - complete steal for the Rangers

I'll give you props for creativity, but imo the values here just don't add up.

Well the thing is Lehner was traded at the deadline, so Toronto was retaining essentially only $350K.

Regardless, a 1st for $2M retention sounds so off to me.

It would probably cost the devils a bit more to get Tuch even on LTIR. But yes, that would be dangerous and he’s the guy that the devils need

A Rangers fan making a ludicrous ACGM where the Rangers steal players? No! Never seen that before! Preposterous!

The consistency of the just brutally bad takes by NYR fans is incredible.

It’s a 1st for $10 million. (Since it’s multiplied by 5 years) Marleau was $6.5 million and fetched a 1st. If anything a 1st wouldn’t be enough to get a team to retain that much.

I'd beg to differ. Two mil upon 5 years is not that high, but $6,5M for one year for a team in a massive money trouble is much bigger problem.

For instance, TOR retained $1,2M upon 6 years when they dealt Kessel to Pittsburgh, which totals to $9M, and effectively didn't get a penny for doing it. It's just done in order to make the move happen, as teams in general do not have a huge amount of cap space left.

Toronto didn’t get stuff in the Kessel deal because Kessel was overpaid and the value of him at a certain cap hit contributed to the value of the trade. Eichel isn’t overpaid, and the Sabres can get a lot for him on his own without retention, so it is a negative for Buffalo to have to retain salary.

I mean BUF has no need for that cap space for probably the whole duration of the contract.

It'd probably ideal for them to move the contract without retaining any salary, but should they find a suitable move for themselves, and it came to retaining a miniscule amount of money, I don't see a point of making a fuss out of it.

Look at my profile. I am an Oilers fan. But you can make that 3rd a 2nd. I know the value might be far from perfect but I tried my best to make something fun happen with players that we know are on the blovk in Dvorak, Eichel, Gerogiev and also factoring in team needs. Oilers need more depth scoring and a 1st goalie. Arizona gets more picks. Vegas a true offensive superstar. Devils some good depth scoring on the wing. Rangers a true 2nd line center. Buffalo picks for the future or prospects
