If there was any way to do it without Mercer, that would be ideal.

Mercer is a great prospect, but this statement vastly overrates his current ability and the fact he hasn’t played a game in the NHL. He very well could turn into an all star, but he’s not close to that value now.

so you trade a possible star for a soft playmaker?

Wild already has multiple top c prospects and two c spots already filled on roster. So change that 2nd round pick to a 1st because wild don't need to, or want to deal Kevin fiala . You want him .you pay for him

What is it with people thinking a good young player like Kevin fiala has lesser value, or equal value to a prospect?

hes a good playmaker but he isnt worth mercer. its simple mercer style of play is something very rare to see. hes a puck protection beast with great hands and decent shooting instincts.

He's a prospect. Prospect alone doesn't equal a good young NHL player in trades like ever

I mean, Fiala is a goal scorer. He’s 24, in his prime, consistently playing at a 50-60 pt pace, and is a monster in transition.

Mercer has a ton of potential but he’s still 3ish years away from making the impact you expect at least and it’s far from a sure thing. If Minnesota is going to trade Fiala, this is the type of prospect I’m asking for. You’re trading performance now for possible future performance.

Yeah a unproven prospect does not equal one of the best young players in the NHL. Why does every teams fans think you can get prime players with unproven prospects and role players.

"One of the best young players in the NHL" is a stretch

20 goals and 20 assist in 50 games is darn good wish he was on my team. If I did a similar trade idea like Luke Tuch, Ryan Poehling and a 2nd for Fiala I would get roasted.

Well Poehling has panned out as assumed, although some people had too high of expectations for him and the habs became competitive way sooner than expected. He’s still on track to becoming a solid 3C.

And yeah, Tuch, a 2nd, and Poehling doesn’t come anywhere close to this offer.

He's a good player but not "one of the best young players in the NHL"
