I know suzuki and Caulfield are really good players but if the plan is to rebuild, wouldn't you move Anderson, toffoli, Hoffman?

Why would the Panthers add 1st when they're already giving up the best player in the trade?

I wouldn't call Verhaeghe the best player of the trade. Petry is among the best NHL defensemen in addition to carrying the Canadiens defense core. He's a very valuable player and as far as I'm concerned, he is much less expendable than Verhaeghe. This would be the only trade which I would be willing to make with him.

Excluding the value which I would rather not get in an argument about, both of these players recently signed extensions, so this doesn't make a lot of sense
Plus we already have 2 top pairing RD, we need LWs more than RDs

As I said in the description this is just for fun, in reality both players would not be traded because they signed recent extensions but I also just traded away the Canadiens 5 most valuable players which is completely unrealistic.

Zegras > Caufield

On what possible basis do you make that claim, draft position? Zegras is a fine player, don't get me wrong, but to date, he has 13 points in 24 regular season games and zero playoff experience. Caufield had 5 points in his first 10 regular season games and then added 12 points in 20 playoff games. They're different players, but the data doesn't support your "Zegras > Caufield" assertion.

Petry posted a career year, which at 33 years old he is very unlikely to replicate. Excluding this season, he is a 40-point dman who gets paid 6M+ until he is 37 years old

Caufield was also playing on a playoff contending team while Zegras is playing with other players who are under 24 years old. Caufiled is only getting this much hype because of recency bias. Make him play a full 82 game season with the ****tiest team in the league then talk ****.

You're the only person on the planet who gives the Habs any props, but I don't think you can claim Caufield was somehow ushered into a primo scoring opportunity on a good club. The Habs almost didn't make the playoffs and were still dealing with the departure of Drouin up front. Caufield arrived and earned his way up, playing with Staal and Perry until the last game of the season. He was then in the press box to start the playoffs and only got dressed once the Habs were sinking to the Leafs. The rest is history. The kid showed up! I am quite sure Zegras will prove himself to be a very good player, but Caufield already has.

I apologize, but I asked you for fact and you gave me your opinion. The Athletic ranks Caufield ahead of Zegras. The Hockey News has Zegras ahead of Caufield. Neither of these are "facts", they're opinions. And, as you have surely heard, "opinions are like a**holes: everyone has one."

I personally guarantee you that Z will have a better career than Caufield... His point totals on a putrid ducks team are impressive, while Caufield was able to play with more skilled guys
