Drop Suzuki and make it a 4th or even a 3rd and you're in the area.

Yeah not surprised to hear you’re just a stat watcher when you compare Nino to Fiala. Anyone that’s watched both of them play for years (I.e Wild fans) knows it’s not even close.

Fiala > Nino
Boldy > Suzuki

By a good margin on both.

All of that aside, thinking the value of Fiala is a 3rd round pick is remarkable ignorance.

Go back and read what you wrote. I see what you’re saying now but it can be interpreted both ways.

I mean, over the past two seasons...

Fiala - 114 GP, 43 G, 94 P -- 25 years old, RFA

Nino - 116 GP, 21 G, 58 P -- 28 years old, UFA

You can say they both could use some work defensively -- but to even compare them in terms of trade value is just strange to me.

edit: and actually, Nino is about to turn 29

Fiala had a career year in the last two years. Look at Nino's best year, look at Fiala's best year, look at Nino's worst year, look at Fiala's worst year. Age is a factor sure, but it's negated by the fact Nino is one of the best 5v5 defensive forwards in hockey, and Fiala is... let's just say not.

Nino had his best years some time ago. You need to predict what they will do in the future, past accolades mean next to nothing. And in the future Fiala will beat Nino 100-0.

I'll put money on that going the other way. Fiala's career year is something he's never shown flashes of before. Nino's numbers are up and down, but they're still consistently better.

you guys are all wasting your time arguing with a Canes super-homer

This deal is great for the Canes imo. It should be a late first, and while Suzuki is a great prospect, we need top 6 talent now, while our cup window is open

I think the Wild would say no

It's okay to be a bit biased when talking about the team you root for, but this take is just cap.

Nino's best season -- 25 goals, 57 points, all 82 games played -- that was in 2016-17

Fiala's best season -- 23 goals, 54 points, but only in 64 games due to the shortened season in 2019-20 -- over 82 games, that's 29 goals, 69 points. And last year he was on pace for 33 goals. 66 points -- you could argue that was actually his best season.

You don't trade for a guy and say -- man, he was really good offensively 4 years ago, let's trade a top prospect and 1st for him! You trade for the player he is now or what you expect they'll become (prospects). You should never make a trade based on what the player was.

Fiala is the more offensively gifted player -- and he is 4 years younger and an RFA. That's just more valuable.

I don't dislike Nino and still think he is a good player, but if I have a choice between Fiala and Nino, today, 10 times out of 10 I'm choosing Fiala.

Well said! This guy should sign Jagr, he had pretty good numbers a few seasons ago
